Title: Helpful Hint
Post by: angelsmom10 on Apr 30, 2004, 11:37 AM
I currently subscribe to a newsletter about helpful hints.  I get about 2 emails a day containing 2 helpful hints.  The one that just came in concerned camping.  So I thought I share....

HINT 1

Cleaning up after cooking on the campfire:

To make pot cleanup easier after cooking on the open fire, try this handy tip. Just before using the pot rub the outside with a bar of soap. Instantly your
cleanup will be a whole lot easier.

This one will not concern most of us......

HINT 2

Outhouse Tip:

When camping keep your toilet paper in a coffee can to keep bugs and moisture out. Great idea for picnics too!

Actually, this one is a great one for me!!  We keep a spare porta potty outside,  near the pool area, for the kids to use so they don't track muddy footprints through the house.  The roll of tp has gotten rained on, sprinklered and just plain dewey on more than one occasion!  Going to look for coffee can now.

I would think that you would discourage the kids from using it after, you know, what, you know,  happened, you know   :Z

We use one of those ice cream buckets to put the TP in.  It's big enough to put a couple of rolls in.  The rule (supposedly) is that the person who takes out the first roll, leaving one, has to bring back, or remind someone to bring, another roll.  That way there are always two rolls in the bucket and one on the spool.   Sound like a lot of TP?  Well, with lots of guys eating lots of chili, and lots of gals drinking lots of coffee around the fire, you just never have enough.

Periodically we stay at cabins in the Shenandoah mountains that you have to hike in to. These are totally primative (think Abe Lincoln days...) and they all have an outhouse. The tp is always kept in coffee cans!  If not, or if someone leaves the lid off...you'll always see a cute little mousey nest made from whatever color of tp is in there! LOL

Ummmmmmm, someone hijacked my post and turned it a long ways around. :compumad:  And Cindy, maybe your extra potty outdoors might not get filled too full if the tp smelled better.  :D

Now I am wondering.  Do bears like coffee?  If the paper was in the coffee can and you used it, then your butt could smell like coffee and if bears like coffee...you could be in trouble. :yikes:

Tracy, as far as I can tell, bears like pretty much everything.  I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they even like regular TT scented TT.   So, if you're in bear country, your bu** is in trouble, no matter what!

Yeah, but EVERYBODY knows that a bear s&%*s in the woods so it won't have any interest in the TP at my campsite!   :D
