Title: Who's camping this weekend?????
Post by: jstaddwtr on May 25, 2004, 08:33 PM
We are very excited to be going!  The week before we leave is always hard though, seems like forever, until your hooked up and on the road! We will be staying at the Holiday L Park in Virginia Beach!   Our relatives from Indiana are going to meet us there.  We have had our PU for alot of miles but they have never seen it open.  We usually stop by to say hello on our way out west or on our way back!

We will also be getting together with some of our other relations who live in Virgina Beach.  We don't get to see any of them too often so we are looking forward to this.  We are so used to camping alone with just our family.

What about everyone else?  Who gets to go out and play this week-end?  The gas prices are high, the traffic will be awful but I am sure somebody will be out there!  We will be looking for stickers!
Have a great week-end!

I'd love to be camping this weekend.  memorial weekend is usually our biggest camping trip of the season.  But, my daughter is getting married on Sunday so...... I guess I better be there.  I kept telling her i wasn't going to show up cause I'd be camping.  She almost started to believe me!  HA HA

Have a great and safe weekend!

We were going to try to head out... starting looking around fairly last minute.  But all the SP are full for the weekend.  Instead we are going to shoot for Monday or Tues, someplace close to home.  That way I can camp with the kids and the DH can meet us at the campsite each night.  Looking at Little Talbot Island SP or Anastasia SP.  Another choce is a city park... Kathryn Abby Hanna Park.

We'll be camping with family and friends up north at our place.  It's s'posed to be cold and rainy and dismal, but we're going anyway.  Our friends with the 1999 Jayco camper that they just got for $1200 will be on their maiden voyage with it, and we'll have all kinds of fun showing them the tricks and giving them the tips.  We've also invited DSister and her DH, who aren't really camping types, and that should be a hoot when she asks where the restroom is and we have to send her to the outhouse.   No, maybe I'll be nice enough to let her use the little Sportsman's Guide potty tent and the little portapotty in it.  Lil Spanky is all excited about camping, and our friends have 2 boxers that will be coming, too.   There will be a PowWow taking place not too far away, and we're planning on spending some time there.   The biggest drawback is that I've started sorting out the winter clothing from the summer stuff, and was aware that on Memorial Day weekend in MI we would still need some sweats, but wasn't counting on having to get out so many winter clothes for this trip.

Actually, headed out tonight!!  There is the best cg one hour from here right on the lake and there are only a handful of sites that can be reserved.  Naturally I did not reserve mine in January so they are gone and the rest are first come, first serve.  So I figured if I head out after work today, I should be able to pick out a good spot for the next five nights!!! :-() We'll see...

I think we will be heading down to Murtle Beach SC on Monday, following the Memorial Day weekend.  My wife is going to have thyroid surgery on Thursday, and would like to camp at Pirates Cove or Pirates Landing (?) in Murtle Beach SC. before she goes through this.

We can't leave as early as we would like on Friday so we have decided to leave about 4:00AM on Saturday morning.  It is just not worth fighting the traffic from northern Virginia to Virginia Beach on Friday evening.

I appreciated the discussion in another thread about alternative routes but sitting in traffic just is no fun.   Just the adrenalin that gets pumping once we are hooked up and on the way!  A good cup of coffee will keep me going even if it is still dark!

Sounds like there is going to be some heavy relaxing this week-end!!!!  We want to hear all about these trips when you come back.  Who said there is nothing to talk about on this board!  What a selection of CG's and places to go!!!!!  It all sounds wonderful!

If you have time you should visit the town of Cass just north of Marlington and Wagtoa. Here is a link to the park. Cass Scenic Railroad State Park (http://www.cassrailroad.com/) It is worth the short trip even if you don't ride the train just to see them depart and arive and visit the gift shop. Anyone who likes trains would love this state park. I highly recommend it

What a coincidence, Corey!!  That's where I'm going to be!

Can't wait to sit around the campfire with some old camping friends (ForestCreature, Cyclone and BearBait) and some new ones (PopupSgt, Don and SkipP).  We have  families from 8 different states meeting in one place to enjoy each other's company and our favorite activity ~ PU Camping!

... and may we all remember the true meaning of this weekend.   :usflag:

We made the trip to Cape Hatteras yesterday afternoon, got off of work at 1pm, and headed straight home to hook-up and get the last items aboard, we were on the road by 2pm, and at the campground by 4:45pm...

I'm currently sitting here at the picnic table, online with my cell phone, watching Fireworks over the beach (seem to be coming from the vicinity of the KOA Beach - I'm maybe another quarter of mile down the road from there,  but have a great view of the Fireworks!!!
