I bought a set of tires last year at Walmart, but I only discovered the other day this problem:
I was airing up the camper tires, minutes away for leaving on a 300+ mile drive. I discovered that both tires are labeled "Sure Trail ST 5.70-8" tires, and are identical in appearance. They are a smaller tire, and I have been very pleased with their performance.
However, I have been airing up both tires to 50 psi cold, according to the writing on the tire on the left side. I saw that the (identical) tire on the right side said to air up to 75 psi cold.
What gives?

That sure is strange. Does the manufacture have a web site? I would contact K-Mart if you can't find anything yourself. :eyecrazy:
They sold you tires with different load ranges. If you look close I'll bet they have different weight ratings. Make sure the lower of the two is at least 1/2 of the maximum gross axle weight rating.
Had this happen to me as well, only I was lucky and happened to see it when I was getting them mounted.
Sounds like time for a trip back to Wal-Mart to ask them how you ended up with two diferent tires. I am assuming here you did not pick these out yourself....

The interesting thing is that they have exactly the same ply on the sidewalls and tread (can't remember what they are, but I remember them being the same).

Actually, I did. They are the small camper tires that are for sale and just out on the shelves, already mounted on the wheel.

I might go try and get another tire to match one of them, and just make the "unmatched" tire the spare. I didn't buy a spare one last year...I still have the old one on the camper.

According to their specs you have two different load range tires

Now you know why CHuck S and I, among others make such a fuss about reading everything on the sidewalls. From some manufacturers in some sizes you might have as many as 4 identical looking tires with vastly differing weight ratings.
Not to mention having tires that are not trailer rated (ST) and I've even had an "experienced tire person" try and sell me tires that weren't even highway rated, but were designed for a power wheelbarrow.

Strong work! Looks like I'll be looking for another tire with the higher weight rating.
Mike, are you saying the ST's aren't rated for a trailer? They are the ones that were on there when we bought it. Plus, I haven't had any problems with either set (even the lower weight rated, 50 psi ones). Remember, our Colt is a pretty light trailer, although we've never weighed it (wanted to, though).

I think he meant that ST's were trailer rated.
Yes, I meant that ST rated tires where the ones that are rated for trailers (special trailer).
