Title: Dumber !!!!!
Post by: birol on Jun 15, 2004, 05:43 AM
Yesterday there was another storm approaching fast and I wanted to close the PU, fast ! There were tornado warnings issued and this thing was over us in no time. While trying to hurry, I extended a torn area on the canvas by 4 inches !!!!! Sigh ........

And to boot, I found out that someboedy undid the safety thingie on the winch and the roof was being held just by the two door frame and one oven cover holder wood. Obviously someone cranked it up and undid the locking mechanism :( I will from now on take the handle away and drill a safety lock mechanism hole on the winch.

Today I will raise it and patch up the canvas pronto !

If this keeps up Finally will go directly to junk yard without being camped even once :(:(:(

Man oh man, ever tried sewing canvas ? Pheeeew ! ANyways, the front bunk canvas torn in both corners, right side worse than the left side. I sewed the left side and patched it up with some spare canvas which came with FInally, looks patchy but strong !

Right side, I could olny sew it completely. I need more patch cement ! I am taking off now to get a gallon of it hehehhe Oh well close to i, so many torn pieces to be fixed.

Good thing the patch kit comes with that strong thread and the needle, I used pliers to sew at certain places.

I could NOT go to get the canvas cement. Got into the windstar and it won't start :(:(:( Yesterday the gas light was on, I guess because of the way it is parked, whatever little amount is left in the tank is not enough to make it go the half mile to the gas station. So here I am stuck at home and no canvsa cement. I guess I will sew the other bunkend later on ...

Birol--

I used contact cement on mine ('67 Starcraft Sunliner) when I was patching the canvas.  Apply the cement to the patch and to the surface around the rip/hole, let it dry and apply the patch.  Make sure that you get the patch in the right place the first time, 'cause it won't move once the two surfaces meet.

Contact cement should be available at WalMart, or any building supply store.  In a quart (liter?) can.  Should be lots cheaper than "puny tubes."

Hope that helps.

Yeah :( Good thing no one got hurt eh :( At least I found out that those three pieces of wood can and will hold the roof up !

The holes are slatged to be drilled next week and a proper lock will take its rightful place. I am not leaving the crank on it anymore. Som idiot might also try to crank it up while it is latched up and cause more damage !  Some people are morons I guess !!!
