The laws get dumber all the time. If a tree on the USA border falls over the line into Canada, who gets blamed & fined? Maybe some politician will throw the tree in jail? Or sentence it to death by fire!

I like the one that says you can't carry a bird into the USA from Mexico, but there isn't any law that says one can't FLY over the border. Just train your bird to come when you whistle, leave him on the Mexico side, drive through the checkpoint & whistle for him to come!

As for the firewood, I don't think you'll need to popup the trailer at a checkpoint. I'd be more concerned with the weight of the wood putting you over your towing limit or the trailers weight limit. NJ state parks sell large 25# bags of kiln dried firewood for $6 (Hotsticks - but don't buy them in a store because you get smaller bags for the same price). Cut the pieces in half (2x2 size), burn them one at a time and you've got enough to go through the night. Plus, since they're dried, they'll ignite in wet weather.

I agree that many of these laws seem pretty dumb, although perhaps the intent for them meant well to prevent invasive species of plants or critters, being transplanted and taking hold.

I don't bring my own firewood anywhere, for several reasons, none of which have to do with the Criminal Justice system or lack there of!

If I am at a state park, I always buy the wood from them. It's cheap, it's needed money for the park, it's not wearing and tearing on my vehicles or camper AND at today's gas prices, how cost effective is it to haul that much weight!

On the rare instance that I am camping at a private CG, I will buy it either at or near the CG, whichever is cheapest. For the last two reasons stated above!

I was wondering why he'd want to buy a bear and travel with it... it would add more weight.
