Title: LED's
Post by: campingeyedoc on Jun 17, 2004, 07:52 PM
Who has used a LED flashlight? Are they bright enough? Do they really last forever and a day? How much did you pay?

I hope someone will respond, because I have also heard a lot of good things about LED flashlights.

I drive for UPS and in the winter I use a LED headlamp to light the pathways after dark.  My headlamp has multiple LEDs (3) and works well - leaves my hands free for carrying.  I have only put one set of batteries in it so far and it went all of last winter.  I felt safe with the light output (ie I could see where I was going and can read labels, house numbers, etc).

I use a LED flashlight each day at work.  My particular flashlight give off a slight blue hue instead of the a traditional clear light &  I have had the original (3) AAAA batteries for 2 years.  I use mine to see inside dark electrical cabinets and for wiring, it's amazing to see components with such clarity and having zero brightness reflections.

We have an LED flashlight and several EXPENSIVE rechargeable flashlights in the campers.  My husband is a firefighter and has an affinity for the latest/"greatest" flashlights...  Anyway, I ALWAYS go for the LED flashlight as it always works and is VERY bright with a very crisp white light.  The rechargeable flashlights NEVER work when you need them.  The next flashlight I'll buy will be an LED one.

Here are some good websites with info:

I second what everyone is saying. I've had a LED flashlight for 3 years and it goes everywhere with us. I take it with me on business trips also. LED flashlights have a VERY long battery life.

We have several LED "head lights" and they work great.  The LED light is very directional.  The light doesn't spread out like a traditional bulb, so they are not good for area lighting, but great for seeing what you are looking at.  I even replaced one of the bulbs in each of the ceiling lights in the PU with LED bulbs.  The LED bulbs save power when dry camping. :)
