have a situation where i need to seal a portion of the canvass (new vinyl type)when we set up tried regular grey duct tape, and it don't work so good. anyone got idears oln what actually does work on that stuff?
Ummm..new? As for vinyl, you might try something like a waterbed repair kit if you can't find anything else, that stuff is designed to patch vinyl and will hold up against water as well.
Not sure about tape, thought duct tape would stick to anything!!
Carpet seam tape is some of the most sticky stuff I have ever used. Not the one that you heat to stick. If the seam tape is sticky on both sides, you can just stick a piece of regular duct tape over the exposed seam tape.
Duct tape doesn't stick well when it gets wet. When my dog stayed outside most of the time in a fenced run, I used to put clear plastic over the corner where her dog house was so she could have a dry "porch" when it rained or snowed. I tried taping the pieces of plastic together with duct tape and it would come loose after it got rained on a couple of times. I found some heavy clear tape that's designed for patching holes in swimming pool liners, etc., and it seemed to work pretty well. Can't remember exactly what it was called but the label said it could be used underwater so it was OK for stuff like swimming pool liners, etc. I do remember that it was a good bit more expensive than good ol' duct tape! (Found it at Wal-Mart.) Don't know how well it would stick to the vinyl, but since swimming pool liners are a similar material it might do the trick.
I had good luck fixing a tear in my canvas fabric with the patch repair kit sold here in the PUT store. I was very surprised how well it stuck to the fabric. I believe they have 2 types of kits: one for canvas and one for vinyl.
I got some killer duct tape from a company called Tesa Tape. Best darn tape I've ever used.
There's also aluminium tape, which is used for sealing furnace/fireplace duct work. It's not as pliable as something like duct tape, but it isn't as rigid as it's name applies. And that stuff sticks on through all kinds of conditions (dust, heat, cold, etc).
Please let us know what you find that does the trick. I am curious to know the results!
