Okay, so the choices are have bee narrows down to two - Newport News or American Heritage
There are pros and cons to both?
Cons: No swimming at Newport News and I have read you can hear the hwy traffic...................
Pros: big spacious sites allowing for some privacy, and fishing, hiking
American Heritage;
Cons: a bit more crowded, smaller less spacious sited with little to no privacy..................................train tracks 1/2 mile away.
Pro's" volleyball, basketball and horseshoe courts, and gameroom and pool ( although it looked pretty small)
So , I guess it comes down to two things:
Which is closest to the Williamsburg/Busch Gardens area and;
anyone want to weigh in here and help ?
There are tons of activities at Newport News park as well such as frisbee golf, archery range and bike rentals with lots of trails.
We stayed there a couple of years ago as a base for Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. It is a great park and I could not believe how empty it was. It seems to be a well kept secret and is mostly frequented by locals and a few people that travel.
We had deer right outside of our screen room in the evening. If I went to Busch Gardens again this is definately where I would stay. We did not hear the highway traffic at all, had one of the back sites.
It is one exit away from Busch Gardens.

Thanks, could you have campfires at Newport News?

Yes to the campfires, they do allow them. They don't have fire rings as such, but you are allowed to build campfires. Most site's have some rocks in a ring...
