Title: Tips from a woodworker please!
Post by: campincrew on Oct 13, 2004, 11:01 AM
I am looking forward to making a set of campsite signs for the next camping season and am looking for tips on how to route out the text, and am looking for a template of a pop-up.  I will probably be using cedar or a similar well weathering wood and staining or lacquering the finish.

Thanks in advance. :W

Popupnut (Beth) makes some beautiful signs.  She's the one to ask!

I'm seeing a lot of signs shaped like a popup. In fact our club logo "Carolina Campers" has a back ground shaped like a popup..  A wood sign can be cut out with a saber saw if you don"t have a bandsaw. The letters can  be cut with  a router freehand. Practice on some scraps of  the same kind of wood as the sign is first ,to get the feel of the router.....Lacquer does not hold well on wood outside.. Urethane varnish is much better and can be applied to bare or stained wood.......
