Post by: ShirleyT on Apr 04, 2005, 09:53 PM
I was browsing websites looking for lights for my patio and came across these string lights. Aren't they adorable??

I just bought two sets on ebay.  I've been telling my wife that it's perfectly normal to have multiple sets of tacky lights.  As the seasons, moods and holiday's change throughout the summer, so must the tacky lights.

We have pointsettias for Christmas, and dragonflies and green mini Coleman lanterns for whenever it suits our fancy! :)   However, I now realize that I must have s'mores too!! :D

How are those Coleman lantern lights?  I've looked at them before and the description says they are small, but I was worried they were too small.  How big are the laterns and are their 10 per string?

They're about 3" to 4" long, so a little on the small side, but very cute.  IIRC, there are 10 lights per string and I think the ones that we have only have a plug on one end.  We still like them very much tho. :)

My DH says I have enough "nerd" lights to make our campsite look like a landing strip...........but I don't use them all at the same time!!!!!
I have different lights for different seasons and moods. After all the hybrid deserves a little sprucing up for our weekend get aways!
Keep on collecting!

Dee,
I'm afraid if I did that, I'd blow a major fuse in the campground and have a site wide black out! At least that's what DH says might happen!
Personally I would not want to inflict that kind of nuisance on any camping neighbor I might have at any campground. Those big RV's with the big mega lights on the back sides of the RV's are really annoying when they forget to turn them off at night. So in the interest of CG peace I will keep my light hanging to a modest minimum!
Happy camping!
Cheryl

I just received my S'mores lights today.  They are better than I expected.  They may just become our main lights.  Currently we have blinking firefly lights as our main lights.

Maybe one of you might know where I can get Yogi Bear lights other than at a Jellystone campground.  We came at about two Jellystone campgrounds a year and wanted to show our Yogi spirit.  But we've only found them at one of the campgrounds and didn't buy them while we where there.  I was hoping to order them but I can't find a place that sells them.

I had a question the web site didn't answer--do they connect end-to-end?

Thanks! :)

griffmom - The lights to connect end-to-end.

Dee4j - Thanks for looking for the Yogi Bear lights.  I can order them from the Jellystone in Frankemuth, MI, but they are $20.  I was hoping to find cheaper ones.

I found a site that I believe is cheesylights.com (not positive)  They have lots and lots of great lights.  I too, love lights.  We have dragonfly ones from IKEA for our PU. But, always looking for more cheesy lights!  I love tropical, so next I'll probably get palm trees or maybe even (Yikes) flamingos!! Do you think I need to move to Florida??? :D

Just ordered 3 sets of the lights and 2 sets of the toasting forks. I just couldn't resist--they are so cute and my 4 y/o will LOVE them! DH probably won't be thrilled that I just spent $40 on MORE camping stuff--as if we didn't already have enough! ;)

A few years ago while vacationing in Sequoia I bought a S'mores ornament and garland.  This was before the S'mores stuff was everywhere and I htought it was so novel and all my camping friends would be so impressed.  Then it started popping up everywhere.  I was warned by a ranger not to put up my garland on the awning as I planned unless I wanted a bear to get close enough to sniff if it was real marshmallows or not!  So it usually is draped over my sink area to make dishwashing more festive.

By the way, ornaments from campgrounds/vacations make great souvenirs and bring back camping memories when you're decorating your tree.  I use a sharpie marker to write the year and location so we'll remember in 20 years where the heck we went!

Estone~

I just got some Luau lights from Michaels craft store for $6.00/ strans of ten and you can plug more than one strand together. They are really cute. I don't know if you saw them this weekend or not, I had them up on my trailer (site #13).

I saw you had some lights on at night, but didn't see what they were.  They sound cute.  I'll have to check them out.  Thanks for the info.  Did you put them on your awning?  We didn't put up our awning, so we put a thin rope from the PU to the tree and strung our dragonfly lights across that.  That worked.

Estelle,
I went for both...my lights are alternating flamingos and palm trees.  I love the flamingo theme for camping.  I have a flamingo wind sock, flamingo marguerita glasses, flamingo lawn ornament, and a flamingo neon light.  Totally cheesy...I love it!

We also have Uncle Sam lights, dragon fly lights, Halloween and Christmas lights.  YIKES.  I really like the s'mores lights too...I already have a lot of Christmas s'mores decorations but I'm thinking the lights are a must.  By the way, the ABC catalog has some great deals if you haven't already seen it.
