Title: Dog's first camping trip
Post by: tlhdoc on May 01, 2005, 08:06 PM
I am taking our 7 year old Dalmatian camping for the first time.  I have food, water, bowls, blanket, toy, leash, clean up bags, I have to get a copy of her rabies vaccine certificate and some stuff so she doesn't get ticks.  What else should I take?:)

We take along a tie-out cable and an extra leash.  The other thing we try to do is determine where the closest vet is located, just in case.  Tim's website has some great camping with dogs info, if you haven't already read that.

The tie-out equipment is pretty essential.  Also, if you are in an area with pine trees and you tie out to one (or close to one), you will end up with gooey pitch blobs on the dog.  NOT much fun to get out!  Our dog appreciates a rug to lie on if it's a wet or muddy campsite.  Clean up bags are essential too.  I hate to run into dog doo in the middle of a campsite I just pulled in to!  No excuse except for lazy dog owners....

We have a collar with a tag made at Petsmart with their name on it, our name, address, and phone number on it just in case they happen to get lost. It also has their rabies tag attached to it.
