OK, now that they have a bunch of useful data, I'll go slightly off-topic and share something I found interesting. This past July, while on a 3000-mile camping trip, I kept scrupulous records of my gas mileage. I experimented with different grades of gas. My owners' manual recommends using premium gas. SO -- I tried it and found that my mileage (while towing) increased about 11% when I used premium as compared with using regular. Now, at the time, nearly all gas stations were charging $0.20 more per gallon for premium than for regular. At the time, $0.20 was less than a 10% difference. I think it was more like an 8% difference. Which meant that I came out ahead by buying premium. As gas prices have skyrocketed in the past couple of weeks, I find that many stations are still separating the regular from the premium by $0.20. This makes the relative cost of using premium even better, because a $0.20 margin is a smaller percentage of the base cost. If premium is $3.50 and regular is $3.30, that means premium is only about 6% higher than regular. Remember, I get an 11% boost in mileage! Some stations, however, have begun separating regular from premium by about $0.40. This takes away the financial advantage of using premium, even though the mileage is better.
Just thought you'd like to know.
