On the way to work this morning they were posted at 2.95 per gal. That is up from 2.60. Wow! I will have to mortgage the house to pull the trailer to the camp grounds.
A couple of thoughts come to mind.
First, we currently have a "double increase" going on. The price is up, and the quality of fuel is down. We got worse mileage crossing Illinois and Indiana last week than we've ever had before, even towing uphill in the Sierra and Rockies. Measure your gas consuption carefully. Some will notice no change. But on average there will be a 7-10% drop. Not only does the gas cost more, but you have to buy more of it to go the same distance. :mad:
Second, something really unusual (or very bad) is happening when the stations adjust their prices hourly. One station near us has been adjusting it's price 3-4 times per day for several weeks. :eyecrazy:
Third, there was an RV dealer near us who advertized "Buy an RV, get free gas." They recently took down the sign and ordered a new one saying "Buy a tank of gas, get a free RV." :yikes:
Fourth, gas is still a lot cheaper than discount generic bottled water from BJ's, CostCo, or Sam's Club.
No matter what else we do, they can charge what they do for only one reason, and that is because we continue to drive. If you think you have to drive, you are fooling yourself (or worse, lying to yourself). Most of the world's population does fine without ever driving in their entire life.

At least I don''t have a gas sucking motor home. I only lose about 2MPG towing my popup!

I'm very fortunate in that I have several good cg's within an hour of home. Yes, the gas prices will affect some of the choices I make in deciding where to shop, spend my recreational time when not camping, or whatever. But, as was pointed out last night on another board I frequent; the rising gas prices are a minor inconvenience when compared to what so many are going through. My family is safe, my home is intact, and I have a job to go to in the morning. We're Americans; we are strong, and we WILL get through this.
