Title: Stop the rain
Post by: mlslocks on Oct 09, 2005, 07:28 PM
I'm leaving for Assateague State Park on Thursday morning. I was wondering if anyone knew how to control the weather. This may be my last trip this year and I'd like it to be dry.

Don't believe the forecasts...yet.  When I lived on the east coast (for 43 years), I had it drilled into me again and again that any forecast that goes out more than 48 hours is purely for entertainment.

Hopin it dires out for you,

Austin

I hope you didn't drowned.  We were camping in the finger lakes of NY area and it rained/drizzled all weekend.  I think you were much wetter than we were.  We have camped at Assateague many times and have always found stuff to do when it rained. :)

If your weather was anything like ours in the mountains you probably got rain, rain, and more rain! LOL It literally started as we pulled out of the driveway on the 6th and rained every day for the first 8 we were gone. Things were wet but we had a really good time. Didn't get to fish as we had planned but otherwise we certainly found plenty to do to keep us content....sometimes doing nothing but reading a book under the awning and listening to it rain was the most relaxing thing to do!! :> I was really amazed at the numbers of campers in the campground where we stayed. The rain sure didn't stop people from camping! One tenth of an inch is all the rain we got the entire month of September....however, as soon as we leave to camp, according to the ranger the area we were in got a bit over 7 inches in just a few days!

Our trip started at 5am thursday October 11th. We had rain most of the drive. Luck was with us, it clear enough for our setup. Thursday night the wind was bad. 4o mph gusts is my guess. should not have put up the awning. My wife wanted to rollit up. I left it out, thought it was to dangerous to roll in that kind of wind. Little drizzly on Friday. Spent most of the day in Ocean City. Saturday was awsome. Light breeze, no clouds and my son made two friends on the beach. Sunday for clean up was good. The worst part, sad to leave. Last trip of the season.
