Title: Whump! What was that???
Post by: AustinBoston on Nov 07, 2005, 08:52 PM
Early Saturday AM, I was at the computer, listening to the crows and jays out back.  Something hit the window, hard.  It reminded me of a snowball.
 :yikes:
I checked.  It was an owl.  The crows and bluejays had been harassing this guy, and he headed under my deck to escape.  Seeing the window, he tried to duck into the "cave" (or, less likely, saw reflections of trees and thought he was heading for the woods) and hit the glass.

I got two pictures before he fled.  He is a Saw-whet owl, and is between 6 and 7 inches long.

By the time he flew away, about ten minutes had passed, and both the bluejays and crows had moved on.

Glad the poor bird was not hurt so bad that he couldn't fly away.  It's nice to watch the wildlife in your yard.  We sit and watch the birds attacking our bird feeders in the backyard.

Very Cool!  He's beautiful.  You're very fortunate to live where you can see wildlife up close.  The closest thing to wildlife I get to see is the pack of teenage boys in my neighborhood tearing it up on Saturday nights!

Yes, I thought about using red-eye reduction, but I figured all those flashes would have him saying "Outaa Here!" before the shutter tripped.
