I Love Morel mushrooms! Getting out in the woods this time of year, kinda feels like spring. However the elusive morel is only to be found during the spring. When I go out in the fall I still find myself looking for these tasty morsels of goodness.
I've never known anyone to find morels in the fall, but that would be so wonderful. I enjoy camping all seasons, mostly in the dead of winter. Everything is so peaceful;counting down the days until that first morel breaks through the crisp leaves.
So only about four more months or so.
I would love to hear from others who seek the wonderful elusive morel along with camping of course.

I enjoy various mushrooms, but I've never had the guts to collect my own. :confused:
I live in Minnesota, where (I believe) the Morel is the official state mushroom. I have found them in the lawn in spring. When I first saw them, I thought they were sponges. By the time I realized they were mushrooms, I'd gone over them with the mower. :(
Anyway, Morel mushrooms have their own web site, complete with regional and state message boards!

One of our favorite places to camp in in the middle of the best Morel hunting
in the lower. (can spring get here soon enough?)
These are our biggest Morel find to date. They were huge! Those are the hands of a 6' 2" man to give an idea of size.

We just had something grow in the mulch by the front walk. They look like morels, but I really don't know what they were. I would be afraid to eat them.:yikes:

One way to tell if it is a true Morel is if the stem is hollow. False Morels have solid stems and will make you sick. Morels should be cut off not picked out of the ground, this way the spores remain for next year.

I tried to take them from the hands holding them but I just can't seem to get to them. Guess I'll have to wait til spring.
Hey Jeff, we are new to NW Arkansas suggestions on place to camp? We have been out to the White River a couple of times. Roughing it is not an issue. Would love to find places we could go this winter!
