Title: What is your favorite item(s) for the popup?
Post by: OC Campers on Jan 31, 2006, 10:11 AM
I know this thread has been done before but there are so many new popuppers on our great forum, I thought I would bring it up again.

Some of our favorite items purchased are:
1) 9 x 12 nylon outdoor mat
2) Popup Gizmos tent end covers
3) dutch oven
4) new tent (so the bigger kids can sleep outside):D
5)  EU1000 Honda generator
6) "popup" outdoor trash holder AKA lawn & leaf bag holder
7)  Igloo electric cooler/warmer

Christmas time brought us a digital camera and telescope which I can't wait to try camping.

I know I have forgotten some things but this will start it off.

My favorite item is my Bal, tire leveler (after my wife :p ):
http://www.campingworld.com/browse/skus/index.cfm?deptID=&subOf=71,33&skunum=21017

The "outhouse" (Teepee tent) is great (in good weather) for the porta potty and showers.

2500w inverter. Great for running 110v appliances (like microwave) during quiet hours. Requires 2-27 series deep cycle batteries and a battery charger to really be effective though.

Honda EU2000I generator, for dry camping (which is what we do 90% of the time).

HD 1/2" electric drill motor for lifting the top and adjusting the leveler (I have a bad shoulder :( ). Makes set-up & tear down a breeze :D .

Extra 12v Igloo fridge for extended camp-outs (over 3 days).

Gizmo tent covers.

Good cork-screw :D

Being prone to eat (and liking it a lot), I'd have to say:

Dutch Ovens
Cast Iron skillets
Grill & Grill Tripod
Associated cooking implements

And most important, PJay, the best camp cook ever! :-()

There are so many things...

I really like showering in my Paha Que Tepee.  With a shower bag filled with 2-1/2 gallons of hot water from the trailer I get a nice long shower.  Clothes and towel are dry on the bars outside, the steam goes out but the mesh keeps bugs and breezes away.  Outdoors yet not.

Weber Gas Go-Anywhere grill is great.  I use it to grill meats.  I also use it with my Lodge cast iron griddle for fajitas, tortillas, french toast, bacon, and pancakes (though not all at the same meal).

Outside Shower.  We had the outside shower placed on the door side of the trailer.  This makes it perfect as an outdoor sink.  I set up my Coleman cooking table right in front of the shower and use two dish pans as a double sink for washing dishes.  Plenty big and no worries about splashing water about like when I wash indoors.

Coleman Cooking table.  It fits in the trunk and is big enough to have the Weber on the wire portion, Propane stove or prep work on the solid part, and my dish box on the lower wire shelf.

This seem so simple, but one of my favorite things is one of those inexpenisve three tiered hanging baskets.  They're perfect for my coffee (I bring the measured out coffee in individual ziplocs, my Crystal Light mix, some snacks for the kids to grab and go, and mine and hubbie's glasses hang through the mesh at night and no one can step on our glasses.

DH loves his BAL leveler.  Everytime he uses it, he marvels at what a great device it is.

My built-in shower & cassette (empty-from-the-outside type) toilet.  I feel so smug every time I shower in my little vacation home on wheels!  Next to that would be the heated mattresses.  There have been many times that I've come out in the morning all rested & warm, only to be met with glares over the heated mattresses in my itty-bitty trailer.  Another reason to be a bit smug.  :D
