Title: Assateague Bound......... Finally
Post by: chasd60 on Feb 12, 2006, 09:19 AM
We have booked an Ocean Side Campsite at Assateague National Seashore for June!! We will be going June 25th thru July 1st. We will probably make it a leisurely drive and take two days for the 11 1/2 hour journey. We booked last year but DW didn't get her vacation approved. This year we are all approved, paid for and ready to go.

Our grand daughter (4 years old) will be arriving from TX on either the 18th of June or the 23rd (depends when I buy the tickets for). She stays with us for 6-8 weeks in the summer and she loves to go camping. And of course DD will be bringing a friend as usual.

This is our favorite CG because it is very peaceful, relaxing, has the beach right over the dune from the camper and the wild ponies roam the island. You can hear the waves crashing all night. The ocean water is plenty warm enough to swim in compared to our ocean water here in Maine.

I understand how you feel.  We have reservations there for Easter and June 15th to the 19th.  Too bad the dates didn't overlap.:)

It has been some years since we've been to Chincoteague/Assateague.  We went there twice, once in the late '80's and again in the early '90's.  One of those times, we saw the return swimming of the ponies.

Among the things I enjoyed there was all the fresh seafood!  There is no way to compare absolutely fresh seafood with the stuff you buy in the supermarket (that has been frozen like a rock for at least a week).

It's a great place for swimming, biking (rentable at a number of shops), hiking, and of course seeing wild ponies!

Enjoy your trip.

Austin

We love it out there. The only thing that bothers me,is when I'm laying on the beach, the kids try to roll me back into the water ot the flying rats (seagulls) sit on me and think I'm food. :yikes:  :)
