Title: Fold over galley conversion
Post by: countrymech on Feb 16, 2006, 12:06 PM
My wife posed an interesting question to me the other day, could we retrofit a swing level galley to our 1995 Coleman Royale. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to do this or had any better ideas. Thanx in advance.

Were you talking about building one or replacing it? I know my old coleman had a piano hinge the whole length of the upper cabinet/sink. I dont see why you couldn't make one or possibly buy one to fit as long as you measure accurately to have enough room to fold down the cabinet. I was  wondering if there is such a thing as an RV salvage yard to search for one.

If I read your question correctly you want to turn your fold-over galley into a swing-level galley. Having had one of each, I can see the desire. The potential problem areas are the clearance needed on either side of the upper galley cabinet for the hardware/arms of the swing-level galley, wiring and plumbing tube clearances would be a concern but should be similar to the fold-over clearances and another concern is the footprint needed in the galley aisle for the upper cabinet to rest. The swing-arms will require a little larger footprint than the fold-over (I think). It sounds like a really interesting mod and if you can acquire the swing-arm hardware it sounds feasible. Good luck,
