I'm hoping that some of you experienced campers can help my husband and me with this. We
Tow vehicles will always operate better with coolers than without. I wouldn't think they would be that expensive to install, even on an aftermarket basis. The cost might end up being a savings somewhere down the road if you do avoid one of those transmission repairs as a result of having the cooler.
At 1500 lbs., you've got one of the lighter campers out there. You could probably get by without the coolers, but I go back to my first sentence above.
Did you have the recall done on your tranny? Or is yours a post recall transmission? This is important because these transmissions were overheating and burning up - especially when towing. My Vue has the same engine/transmission setup you have but was built with the mod already done. Check with your dealer on this.
That said - I'd get a transmission cooler installed. Cheap insurance.
As for a power steering cooler? I don't know about that one. I can't really see the need for one. I just don't see the trailer putting that much stress on the steering.
A transmission cooler on any vehicle, towing or not, is a good idea.:)
I agree with the above posters. The only thing that I would add is that I would recommend letting the dealer install the trans cooler IF the vehicle is under warranty. It may cost more but it may head-off warranty disputes, down the road.
