Look in the top right corner of the message board for "User CP". Click on that and look across the bar for "Signature". Open this and you'll find the icons and whatever else you need to make your signature.

MadKatz1, i see you tow with a Hyundai Santa Fe also, do you have any problems towing with yours. Also do you have the 2.7 or the 3.5 Ltr engine. I have a 2003 also with the 2.7 and my PU with full gear weighs 2200# and I have no problems towing. Its nice to see someone else tows with a Hyundai.......Ed C.

Hi Ed,
I have the 2.7 engine, too, and the only time I have towed anything was home from place where I bought the camper...2 weeks ago. I had a Reese Class III hitch installed and when I picked up the pu I had to remind myself that there was a camper back there...it towed like a breeze. But, of course, it was empty. When I load up all my stuff it'll be a different story.
It's comforting to know you have no problems - the dealer assured me my Santa Fe would be fine, but you never know these days. They tell you anything to make a sale.
How's your gas mileage with all your gear? How fast do you drive? Would you load cargo on the top of your Santa Fe? Like a lightweight Kayak?
We're going to the Keys in 2 weeks - camping in Marathon for 2 nights. I'll let you know how it all turns out.
(I checked out your webshot pics - nice! Garage kept is even nicer! How big is your Jayco?...that sounds a bit naughty!!!)

MK, I dont know if I would tow with anything on the roof of the Santa Fe, The rack on top only holds 75#. My Jayco is a 12 footer, when its open its almost 24 feet long. Our first trip we went to the Mojave Narrows in CA over Presidents Day weekend, when we left here i was only going 60 miles an hour, I was worried about the wheel bearings getting to hot, like everyone talks about. I drove like this for 90 miles, then pulled over to get a drink and when I checked the hubs of the PU, they were barely warm, so when we took off i was driving around 70 - 75 miles an hour with no problem. We went through some steep mountains and with the PU, I could only get up to 40 miles an hour in 3rd gear. Make sure you switch over and shift by hand, you cant use overdrive when towing. Check out your Hyundai owners manual it will explain. My gas milage was around 19 MPG. Have a nice time on your camping trip, I hope you'll post some pics, I always enjoy seeing everyones pics, you get alot of good ideas that way. I hope this helps!!...........Ed :sombraro:

Ed, forgive my ignorance, but are you talking about a manual transmission? I have an automatic and have the up (+) & down (-) gears (i.e. Sports mode) to the right of my standard gears. Would I use the up/down mode for towing on hills/steep grade and the regular gears on flat roads? My owners manual doesn't spell it out clearly. In Florida I should only have to use my standard drive since it's mostly a flat state. Am I correct or should I enroll in a car towing class for dummies?

MK, i also have an automatic tranny, i couldn't think what it was called (sports mode) this is what you should use when towing with the Santa Fe, we're not supposed to use overdrive when towing and there is no overdrive in sports mode. It takes a little getting use to, but you'll get it in a very short time. It doesn't matter if Florida is a flat state, you shouldn't use your standard gears when towing. You can call your Hyundai dealer and check with them, thats what i did they told me sports mode.......Hope this helps..........Ed

Ohhhh boy! Am I glad I talked to you! I could of burnt up my transmission big time. I guess "overdrive" is the use of standard gears which I was using when I first picked up the pu and towed it home. Thank goodness it was a short trip and the pu was empty. I guess I should call and enroll in the Towing Class for Dummies!!! :(
Thanks so much for educating me on my Santa Fe!

MK, dont be so hard on your self, to tell you the truth when I first picked up our PU I was so excited I forgot to drive in sports mode, i got 3/4 of the way home before I remembered. I'm not always as smart as I'd like to be. I hope you'll post the pics of your first trip and some PU shots........Ed :sombraro:

I will post some pics! And speaking of pics... you and many others use Webshots. Do you like it? It seems it's simple to use when viewing images. How easy is it to download images?
Digital Camera: Which format do you use...jpeg, tiff, or gif images when
uploading to Webshots?
Thanks for all your help. Everyone has been so kind and helped me sooooo much!

I use jpeg also, and its very easy to post on webshots. Mk, what type of PU do you have and how much does it weigh? The reason I'm asking is that when I hook up my PU, the back end of the Santa Fe drops around 3 inches. Mine weighs 2200# fully loaded. Today I special ordered the Air Lift 1000 Air Spring System which will allow me to bring the back end of the Santa Fe back up to level or higher, so no more sag in the rear end. I cant wait til it gets here. I ordered it from Camping World, I'm so glad we have one here in town..........Ed

Hey Ed!
I don't understand the different weight abbreviations at all. I guess I should get an understanding real quick since we're going camping next weekend. And, typically, most females tend to take way too much stuff!
Here's all my specs:
2005 Fleetwood Tucson
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) = 2340 lbs
Gross Hitch Weight Rate (GHWR) = 250 lbs
Gross Axle Weight Rate (GAWR) = 2090 lbs
Unloaded Vehicle Weight (UVW) = 1253 lbs
Unloaded Tongue Weight (UTW) = 149 lbs
Max. Carrying Capacity (MCC) = 1087 lbs
Does any of this make sense to you? If it does, how much crap can I load up into the Santa Fe and camper?
When your Santy drops down 3 inches, how do you compensate? (Forgive me, I am a learning female!) Does this drop down put undue pressure on your tires/hitch/axel? Is it bad for your Santy and towing capabilities?
I guess I'll try to eliminate unneeded stuff or I may need one of those Air Spring systems, too.
(Oh brother, time to call the Dummies class... :( )
If you are kind enough to give me a simple explanation on all this, I would be sooooo grateful. And the next time I come to Vegas, dinners's on me! Otherwise, I guess I should start looking for answers in this great forum....
MK, you can tow up to 2700 lbs. with your Santa Fe. Your PU must be an 8 footer, It weighs 1253 (UVW) lbs. The most your PU can weigh is 2340 (GVWR) lbs. loaded. The tongue is the front part of your PU where the battery and propane tank are. The unloaded PU tongue weight is 149 (UTW) lbs. The hitch weight is the total front weight of your PU loaded with all your gear, 250 (GHWR) lbs. this is the most weight that should rest on your tow vehicles hitch. You can carry 1087 (MCC) lbs of gear in your PU. I dont think you'll have that much gear in your PU, We have with cooler, food and gear about 400 to 450 lbs. worth of gear in our PU. Our weight is around 2200 lbs. you dont even come close. You can split the difference with the weight you can carry in your PU (1087lbs) but it wont matter, just when loading your PU distribute the weight around evenly. As for the 3 inch drop on our Santa fe it because of the weight of the front end of our PU. Mine is alot heavier than yours. I dont think you'll have this problem. The only thing you might want to invest in is a Sway Bar, this helps reduce that side to side swaying when your driving. I dont get alot of this with my jayco PU but i had one installed anyway. I hope this helps MK,............Ed :sombraro:

Oh, it helps tremendously! For many hours I read posts about all these GVWR's, UTW's and so on. I got more and more confused because not everyone uses the same terms and have different opinions on what they mean. Your explanation is the only one that made sense to me! :)
I'm still not sure on how to tow using the sports mode gears. I plan on going to the Hyundai dealership and asking a mechanic to show me...I'm from Missouri! (I really am!)
I wonder (if I smile real pretty) if he'll show me how to back up a trailer cuz I have big problems with that, too. Hopefully, the cg has pull through sites until I know what I'm doing.
Again, thanks so much for your help....
MK, if you want to know how to back up a trailer and how to use every piece of your PU, you can purchase a Video called Pop Up 101. I got mine like 3 months before we got our PU. I wanted a head start on how to use a PU. The web address is " //www.rveducation101.com ". I think i paid 24.95 for it, to me it was worth the money. I think I watched it like 50 times before we got our PU. I still watch it every once in awhile. If you have a Camping World by you they sell it. I hope this helps........If you need a list of stuff to pack and take on a trip, let me know and i will private message it to you..........Ed :sombraro:
P.S. Have a Happy Easter :W

Good idea on a video. I may get it depending on how things go with my first camping trip...next weekend...time to break in my pu ...yipeeee! I will be with seasoned campers who will hopefully, help me out.
A camping list? Oh boy, do I have a list. I'd like to compare stuff, though. I'll get back to you on that... ;)
