Title: Ceiling Screws?
Post by: masspopup on Apr 10, 2006, 07:30 AM
I want to add a few mods that would require mounts from the ceiling of our 97' Viking.  Does anyone know how deep you can insert a screw without piercing through the roof?

Yeow!!!! Every camper may be different in that thickness. I would remove an existing screw and not exceed that.

Typical roof construction evolves a outer layer, than a middle layer, which is usually a foam base material and then the inner layer. So in knowing this. you could drill a small hole (thru inner layer) in your location you are looking at. then take a straight wire or small drill bit in hand and poke through the foam until you hit the outer layer. this should give you the length that you are looking for. For reference my Fleetwood has a 3/4" gap between outer and inner layers.

You could also remove one of the ceiling lights and take a good look for yourself while noting the length of those screws that held the light fixture in.
