Title: Adding brakes to 98 Palamino
Post by: Spoon on Apr 27, 2006, 12:30 AM
Our "New" 98 Palamino Philly doesn't have electric brakes or any brakes for that matter. I would like to add brakes to the camper to ease the stopping. Is there an easy way to do this by buying a brake hub assembly and bolting them up or what?

Thanks :)

If you pull a wheel, look and see if the plate is on the axel where you will mount the brakes.  If there is, it isn't a hard job.  Most trailer axles are made by Dexter.  They have a very good website and tech support.:)

Spoon,

My 1999 Palomino Filly has an AL-KO axle.  The identifying tag is on the center part of the axle itself facing the hitch.  I have not added brakes to mine but the website is http://www.al-kousa.com/ which has manuals, graphics, part numbers, etc.  This could get you started.  I am sure that some others here could give you tips on performing this project and some good advice as well.

Check out my mods page at http://larryandhollycrockett.com/modifications.html

It is adding brakes to a utility trailer, but if your camper has the square backing plate, it will be the same.

I will go under and look for the backing plate. If I recall I think the dealer said there wasn't anything present, but you never know.

Thanks!
