Title: Floor Problems
Post by: Craig on May 10, 2006, 03:12 PM
I just puchased a 1997 Viking 1906 ST. This camper is in great condition accept for some water damage by the door. I fixed the door and now I need to fix the foor. I need to replace a small section of flooring but I am not sure of what kind of plywood to use. Does this need to be coated with an undercoating like the rest of the floor? After I fix this small section I plan to put down some 1/4" plywood and new tile.

I would use exterior grade plywood and coat all sides including edges with a paint or some sort of sealer.  there is not telling how much water would get up there while driving in the rain or on a wet road.  and everyone knows what a mess it is when plywood gets wet and delaminates.....some people have used marine grade plywood, but IMO that would be overkill (although certainly wouldn't hurt).

Exterior plywood is put together with waterproof glue and will not delaminate when wet..It will work fine for your floor patching job...Marine plywood is very expensive and would be a definite waste of money in this application.....
