I thought of this thread last night while sitting on the patio. Thought there could be some good humor in it while we wait on Memorial Day weekend trips. Of course, we are still "rookies" I suppose, so it might even be a learning thing for us!
So my entry is (saw this one a couple of weeks ago when we were camping): they are standing in the pouring down rain squirting a bottle of lighter fluid on the fire to keep it going.
You know your a rookie when you unhook the pup and it starts to roll away leading to a short chase down the road:yikes: because you forgot to chock it. Don't ask how I know.:D

They guy who bought my 98 Jayco a few weeks ago called me the next day and said. "How do you set the parking break when you un-hitch". He had un-hitched and let the trailer roll into his other car.
You know your a rookie when you put charcoal in your propane grill.
You know your a rookie when you get the PU all set up and when you step inside and lay on a bunk the PU tips up because you forgot to set down the stabilizers!!!
You know you're a rookie when the popup wheels are 4" off the ground, supported by the stabilizers.
When you slide the bunks in and try to lower the roof only to remember you never put the door up!!
You know your a rookie when you believe the RV salesman when he tells you, that you can tow that 5000 pound trailer with your Taurus station wagon.:)
You know you're a rookie when all the lights go out...oh, wait, that can happen to anyone.
You know you're a rookie when you can't get it backed in to the site...oh, that happens to a lot of experienced people too...
Ausitn
.........when you leave the crank at home!
You know you're a rookie when..........
You forget to set the latch on the ball hitch! (Or maybe your in too much of a hurry)
You know it's a rookie when they break their kayak paddle....first time out :D .
You know you're a rookie when you can't figure out why your bunk end canvas is streching so much and what the heck are these extra poles for?!?!
Saw that one last year
Great Thread!!
You know you're a rookie when you can't push the galley-end bunk end in because you forgot to lower the galley!
You know you're a rookie when your awning blows up onto the roof because you didn't stake it down.
You know you're a rookie when you roll out of bed and out of the camper because you forgot to bungie the bottom of the tent-ends.
(I'm sure I could come up with some more if I think about it.)
You know you are a rookie when you try to get a 120V appliance to work, right after you buy and charge a brand new deep cycle battery, and you hook it up. :(
I resemble so many remarks on this thread. ;)
Larry
you know its a rookie when you pull out and wonder what that scraping noise is and find that the stabilizers are still down
You know you're a rookie when you finally backed into your spot, leveled, raised the roof, dropped the stabilizers, extended the bunks and slide out, everthing is going smooth, and your all done within 20 minutes. Then you go to grab a *beer to quench your thirst, and there is NONE!! :yikes:
* You can substitute your favorite thirst quenching beverage. ;)
I can say that many of these have happened to well seasoned campers, not naming anyone specific. LOL How about "left your camper keys at home". This one gets me everytime I see it-"set up camper in the corner of the site and therefore are setting in 4 campsites". LOL
You know your a rookie when you back into your spot and put the wheel back on the tongue jack and then after you unhitch the TV and pull away the wheel falls off the tongue jack because you didn't get the pin anywhere near the holes and the wheel bends to the point where it wont fit anymore.
I did this on our maiden voyage, My first SPUT........

Ok...I am a rookie! We just bought our first PU last week (have been tent campers for years). I am reading this thread to educate myself. But, I don't get this one? Please help before I make a bonehead move!
I do have extra polls in my PU...well they aren't polls exactly they are three sides and look like they fit over something, but we can't figure out where they go.

I saw somebody set thier pup up and they forgot to put the support poles under the bunk ends-that's what it means. As for your poles, I don't know.
You know you're a rookie when you have your brakeaway switch cable too short and the first turn you make your trailer brakes lock up.

Easy one. Those fit over the posts that hold the roof up when you are popped up, to give the roof more support so it won't come crashing down on you. They are typically used when you have extra weight on the roof like an A/C unit.
You know you're a rookie when you un-hitch your Hybrid and notice only when you pull away that you forgot to remove the safety chains from the TV.............That was Dee4j not me. LOL
