Title: Rooftop AC Shroud Vibration when Trailering
Post by: DRS3rd on Jun 21, 2006, 10:04 AM
New to this helpful forum! I just purchased our first pop-up (a used 99, but like new Coleman Niagra) and has roof top AC. When we trailered home I noticed the AC Shroud cover sure did a lot of vibrating up and down (1/4 to 3/4 inch) and became worse when traveling faster with more wind. I checked and the AC unit itself is mounted solid. Also, AC works fine. Checking the shroud cover it seems tightly fitted but does have a little play with effort. Assuming it is mounted on rubber. Is this vibration normal and do I have to be concerend? Is there a way to fix the vibration? I see no way to access from the outside and again assuming (hate to assume) you have to pull the cover from the inside to check. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I noticed the AC cover vibrating on my 03 Monterey as well.  I am planning on getting a brace made to prevent this from the people that make Popup Gizmos.  Here is the link for the shroud brace  Shroud brace at Popup Gizmos (http://users3.ev1.net/~popup/ac%20brace%20page.htm)

If it's a Coleman unit then yes get one of PUG's braces. A couple of years ago Coleman redesigned the shroud/cover so that the vibration wasn't a problem. No soap, the new design just vibrates slightly less than the old design. The brace "fixes" the problem.

You need to get the Pop Up Gizmo's AC brace.  If you don't you will end up replacing the shroud on the AC unit when it breaks apart.:)
