I am new to PU camping and wanted to know about leveling. I was told that I can use different (sizes) pieces of wood and then drive up on them. There has got to be an easier way since I will be going with my DS and setting up before DH joins. What is a BAL leveler? Help please :eyecrazy:
A BAL Leveler is a device that you slide in around your low side tire and then you turn a large threaded rod and it lifts that side of the camper by lifting the tire off of the ground.:)

Actually, driving up on a leveling device is not very hard at all. Check out my
Leveling Your Pop Up Web Page for examples of both methods.
We got our Bal leveler in March and would not travel without it. Hubby loves it because no backing on the other products to "try" to level the PUP. Best $60 bucks we ever spent. Best price that i found for them was at popupexplorer.com with fast service. Happy camping..:)
My BAL Leveler stays home in the Barn. (Any bidders?) I use Lynx Levelers and/or pieces of wood. Much Faster, much safer (IMHO)
I pulled up on to wood blocks for over twelve years, and the last three years using the BAL. I gotta' admit the BAL is easier to use for me.
Not only an excellent leveling devise IMHO, but a darn good chock for that wheel also.

I'm with Hoppy. The Bal Leveler is easy fast and no hassle. If you guess wrong on the height of "Block" levelers, you have to pull off and add or subtract blocks. The Bal leveler is a one-shot deal.
DISCLAIMER: Make sure that you get the Bal Leveler that has a 1 piece screw. Some have a Mickey Mouse, pinned on hex nut on the top.
DON'T get that one. It's an older design.
Ok I think I have it I just have to figure which one would be easier for this DW to use. BUT now I have one more questions thanks to your answers - Low Side Tire which one is that? I wish there was more in my manual but it is so generic. :yikes:

It's the opposite side from the high side tire. :D
I have to agree with the BAL leveler being easy and no hassle especially if your on a trip and going to a lot of different campgrounds.

One side of your camper will be lower than the other....the low side is the side you want to raise. ;>
IF I ever have the honor of camping with some of you BAL users, I'll challange you to a "race to level" - my Lynx blocks vs your BAL!!!
I've used both. I used my BAL for about a year and a half. Quit using it when the BAL kicked out to the side-(think of a wedge of ice being squeezed between your fingers and flying out!)- for the second time, and realizing that in most cases I was spending longer cranking the BAL up than I would have backing in, jumping out, reading the figures on the leveling bubble, putting down the required number of Lnyx blocks, backing on & chocking.
This past weekend I had to raise it 3 inches, took less than a minute! AND my Lynx Blocks don't cover everything with grease!
Thanks for the imput. I think I am getting a BAL. DH is in the tire business and just shakes his head. But since I will be doing most of the set up I feel I need one. :D
