Title: Just a suggestion
Post by: SteffinMI on Jul 08, 2006, 02:07 AM
Hello all,
I was sitting here reading everyones posts, and I never once saw anyone requesting a list for a "first aid kit". I don't know but maybe it is the bus driver in me to think of safety first. So I figured out that if you were to call your local school district they may sell you or give you a first aid kit from out of an old bus there selling or have laying around. These kits have built in brackets that you can mount practically anywhere in your pop-up. As a bus driver I get freebies from my company I work for. They have given me triangles, flares, body fluid clean up kits as well as a first aid kit for my pop up. Also I made a pvc pipe collapsable hamper that you can put the dollar store drawstring laundry bags in as soon as i can figure out how to put pics on here I will send you pics of it. It comes apart and stores in a duffel bag. I will be buying my first pop up soon and I can use all the info I can get. LOL all this talk in these messages sound like a foriegn language to me, but I am trying to figure it out, any help there will be greatly appreciated. Thank You for letting me ramble on.

Very good point Steff. Havent seen much discussion on bringing first aid kits. The Boy Scout in me keeps one around at all times. Be Prepared is the motto. I took a fishing tackle box and made a real nice one. Goes camping all the time.

For posting pics, it seems as most people have a webshots account. I am actually setting one up myself. I would be interested in pics of the hamper.

Thanks.
John

I have a first aid kit in my house, garage, PU and my Hyundai Santa Fe came with one in a special compartent in the back of the car, which i thought was really neat. The reason I have so many first aid kits is that we have 2 little girls, Amanda (5) and Megan (3), and they are always getting little cuts, bruises  and scratches. .......Ed :sombraro:

With the wife as an RN, and I as a Police Officer, we have almost everything except for a portable Defib (we will get one as soon as they are more afordable which will be soon.)  Most of the "trauma" stuff is in the TV, but we have a pretty decent kit in the PUP.  Something to consider for your hiking kit is a pack of the "quick clot" or similar.  It is made primarily for LE and Military for gunshot wounds, but would be great for a really bad gash on a fall while hiking, or for a compound fracture.  Just a thought.

Title: First Aid Kit

I have a little store-bought kit that has basics, but does anyone have a list that includes what a "real" first-aid kit should have in it? Thanks!

It really depends on how large you want to make it. I did some searching and this site outlines pretty well what is needed,Survival Guide (http://www.survival-center.com/guide/firstade.htm)

Hope this helps.

On our first trip, I cut my finger pretty good with a hatchet.  That's when I found that we forgot our first aid kit.  The day we returned, I was in Sams and picket up a pretty comprehensive first aid kit.  We augmented it with some personal requirements.

You can get Quick Clot on line at any number of Law Enforcement outlets, here is one link, or you can Google it for other links. Quick Clot (http://www.chiefsupply.com/Medical_Supplies/First_Aid_Kits%2CSupplies/QuikClot)
