I did a search, but came up empty. Does anyone have any info. on pulling a pop-up with a 2006 4wd Hoda Cr-v? I don't have a pop-up yet, but I am very interested in getting one, and would like to know if a Cr-v would be suffice. Any info would help out!

Hey Jay,
We have a CRV also, personally, I wouldn't strain the tranny on it. Ours is older than yours, but tradionally, on Honda's, the auto tranny is the weakest link... I have pulled small trailers locally with it, but very light, and not long distance. Great vehicle, but like I said, I personally wouldn't use it to pull a PUP.

Those two items are pretty much mutually exclusive. (Small & Hauling)
Any of the small SUVs (especially Japanese brands) are based on small car chassis. A CR-V is a Civic chassis. I think the RAV4 comes off of the similar Toyota chassis (Tercel?, Echo?)
You will have a very weak engine, a weaker transmission, a short wheelbase, and minimal braking. These are vehicles which do a great job of providing 4WD/AWD in a relatively economical package, but they are not tow vehicles.
A dear friend of mine, who believes that Honda has never made a mistake and that Honda rules the automotive world in all ways, was crushed when looking for a camper for his CR-V at the Harrisburg RV show. One person pointed out where the tents were for sale.
Sorry. Unless you can get a camper under a 1000 lbs total, these are simply not designed for that application.

We have a Subaru Forester 2005. It has towing capacity of 2400 lbs. We pulled our Fleetwood Cheyenne (aprox. wt. 2,300 lbs) with no problem. The PUP has electric brakes and we've prodigy brake controller.

Agreed there. Ours is a 99 model, had it since new, not a single problem, never seen the inside of any shop. However, we didn't buy it to haul or tow with. I have towed a small trailer, probably right at 1000 lbs for short distances, and you could fell it the whole time. I've owned several Honda's, all of them great vehicles, but I repeat what I said before, the tranny is the weakest link. And not cheap... It's a daily driver, not a tow vehicle.

The new Rav4 tows alot better, I think, but don't quote me, over 3000lbs towing capacity... 6cyl obviously.. Don't know about any of the other brands, as the two above mentioned brands are what's parked in my garage ;)
but, if you're gonna buy a new car for buying a PUP, why not buy something that is good at towing?
One thing to keep in mind, it's not just about horsepower. It's also about brakes, cooling systems, suspension, handling, etc.
Get the right tool for the job.

1500 lbs 4 banger
2000 lbs 6 banger
3500 lbs 6 banger with tow prep.
I was pleasantly suprised to see an almost 105 inch wheelbase, although still relatively short, a lot longer than I thought it would be.
I suggest you check out "motorcycle tent trailers" on the internet. Many are built for small cars, low drag, light weight.
