...and I can say that I am one of the fortunate 2!!
The story: I applied for a Legal Research Attorney position with the Orange County Superior Court back in July. They called me before the SCCampers/NNC Pismo Mega Rally to sit for the examination the day after we returned from the rally, which was last week. It was like taking the Bar Exam all over again, except it was only two hours instead of three days. If I passed the exam, then I would be invited for an interview on the 23rd with no less than 7 judges ( :yikes: :eyecrazy: ) and the Legal Research Manager. I got that call and had my interview this Wednesday (two days ago) and of course, had two more on-the-spot examination hypotheticals that I had to shoot from the hip on and give the judges my recommended rulings. The first one I felt I had nailed, the second one....not so much. And since Wednesday, I've been hearing all the things I said during the interview on an endless loop in my head and cringing at how stupid I know I sounded. Ugh. But I guess stupid was what they were looking for because I just got the call this afternoon that I got one of the positions!!!
I'm relieved, overjoyed, and little speechless that I actually got it!! Yippee for me!!! :-()
congrats on the new position :D does this mean you are moving to Orange County ? ;)

Congratulations. With that many applicants, I would have been glad to just get an interview.
I work on contract, so I end up interviewing frequently. The most I've ever beat out was seven candidates.
Good luck and have fun doing it!

Out of the 55 total applicants, they invited 16 of us to take the exam and then gave interviews to those of us who passed the exam. I was very happy to just get past the first cut and take the exam, let alone to interview with the judges.
There were eight of us who ultimately interviewed with the judges, and I really didn't think I had done as well as I could or should have during mine. In fact, I was already preparing myself for not getting it and planning my next step on the job hunt. Getting the job was beyond my wildest hopes. What's really scary, though, is that the last time I wanted a job this badly was the legal editor job I interviewed for 9 years ago when I was trying to get
out of the practice of law! :screwy:
Wow! That sounds impressive! Congratulations!
Larry
Congrats!! :#
Hi Lori,
Wow, what an awesome acomplishment! I have to say after reading your first post, that you should never say how "stupid" you sounded to yourself. Having Only known you for a couple of years, You are one very smart lady! And you proved it to yourself by beating out other people who were just as anxious to want that job!
I suspect that Dave and your mom are super proud! Dave needs to take you out to the best resturant and celebrate.
Congradulations again!

Maybe they wanted someone that would make them look good...

....wandering if Lori told them about the voices in her head????...............
Congrats Lori !!
Similar story, different outcome. When I was 26 I decided to try to become a Police Officer. So I applied for the Chandler Police Dept. in Az. The application process is a bit different than the norm. 1st you have to pass a Physical, then a Physical Agility test, then a written test, then an oral test, backround check, etc.. So they sent me a letter telling me to show up at a specific location on a Saturday (which happend to be a park) with paperwork from my doctor showing I had a physical, and that I could do the Physical Agility test. Upon showing up to the park I saw a "Sea" of people. Come to find out, there was over 425 applicants for a total of 4 positions! I talked to quite a few applicants that day and found that alot of them had a relative already working on the force or they were ex Military Police. Coming from a backround without either I knew my chances were slim. But I went ahead and tried, made it through all the physical stuff, through the written stuff, and evidently tanked on the oral exam. But it was an experience.

It basically sounds like the job entails making them look good. You'll be the brains behind the glory of the judge's bench, right?
Congrats, Lori. The law is like Big Brother -- you can't get away from it. Paul wants me to apply at my daughter's school 1.5 miles from home, cut in tuition for employees, etc., but those darn lawyers are so addicting I can't bring myself to leave court reporting! LOL Acutally, I can't seem to bring myself to leave the freedom I have over my own schedule for a 9-5 type job.

Okay, that makes you crazier than me with the voices in my head!!! :screwy: :J
