We have a 2002 Winstar and, just purchased a pop up. The Windstar does not have the tow package. It does have a factory trans cooler so, we are o.k. there. However I have been lead to beleive it is a real bear to wire by several hitch dealers. Is there any truth to this?
We have a 1999 Windstar and that year ford decided to wire the elec. system with POS ground, instead of the traditional NEG ground. So they have to install a special relay to change it back for the PU. So I hope for your sake that they still are not using this type of setup.
Maybe someone with a 2002 model will have a better answer for you :U
Thank you for the reply. Best I can figure, the the 99 and, 02 must have the same set up, oh well. :D
I had a 1999 Windstar and my dealer wired it without any problem, back in 1999.:)

Are you real sure that you have a transmission cooler that is not part of the radiator?
Wynot, Yep, we do have a trans. cooler. Never even thought to look for one before we decided to get a trailer. I talked to one hitch dealer that aeemed to be honest. He told me even without the tow package alot of Windstars came with a trans cooler. He also stated that if we are only going to be pulling a light load, we should be o.k. as long as we do not travel real long distances and, do not do alot of hills. At any rate, I did take a look at the van and, it has the cooler.
