Post by: Trick on Sep 05, 2006, 08:40 PM
The wife and I just purchased a new fleetwood and used it one time so far. The bunks were so hard we could not sleep on them and had to sleep on the u-shaped couch..What do most of you use for a comfortable bed..We are not heavey, just a little older..lol
Thanks for any ideas..

Congratulations on the new camper and welcome to PUT.  I use one inch foam on our beds.  It makes a big difference.  It has cuts in it that run the length and width of the foam.  Some people use air beds, egg crate mattresses or memory foam.  It all depends on what you like.  Good luck with your new camper and finding a fix for your hard bed.:)

I decided on an air mattress. I tried the memory foam and still experienced back discomfort so I ordered an air mattress from Overstock.com. I am pleased with how comfortable it is.

We replaced our 3" kingsized mattress with a custom made one which has 4" foam and it really sleeps great......

We use an air mattress also. We find it very comfortable. It is also much lighter (foam mattresses are quite heavy) and gives us more storage room (we removed the foam mattress all together). When we pack-up, we can put lawn chairs and/or many other items on the bed platform.

I measured the mattresses and went to an upholstery shop and purchased 1" dense foam.  They cut it to the size I needed.   I think it was less than $40 (several years ago, so I don't rememver for sure).  It made a world of difference.  You don't want to go much thicker than adding 1" because otherwise you may have issues when you're trying to pop down.  Some people take the foam on and off every time, but I didn't want to deal with that.  I put the foam under the existing mattresses.
