Title: Richmond Area Campgrounds
Post by: ffej1010 on Sep 20, 2006, 04:59 PM
We are planning on going to the Virginia State Fair in Richmond, and I am looking for a campground nearby. They have a campground on site, but I really don't want my family camping with all the carnys.
Thanks

There isn't much real close to Richmond.
There is an Americamps on 95 north just north of Richmond.  I have never stayed there but went to a company picnic a few years ago.  What I saw was nice.
Pocahontas State Park isn't too far if you prefer state parks.  It is in Chesterfield County.  I hope this helps some.
Have fun and enjoy the fair!

I've stayed at Pocahontas SP a couple of times, even hosted a PUX mini-rally there a couple years ago with the help of a PUT member (StateParkGrl)...

Pocahontas is nice, has water & electric, and is on the south side of Richmond, but not too far out of the city for an easy commute to where you are going. They were adding a new loop last year, not sure if it's done yet or not. You want to take a peak I have some pictures of the place posted HERE (http://www.gonecamping.net/reviews/va/pocahontas_sp.html)

pocahontas is not bad and not to far from the fairgrounds, there is also ed allen's and rock-a-hock which are on the chickahominy river on the eastern side of richmond, they're probably further than pocahontas from the fairgrounds, but not by much there's also a few campgrounds in norge(KOAs) and in toano there is an rv lot down the road from the fairgrounds that they use for the races but i don't know if it is open for the fair. i would'nt stay at the fair grounds for free (not a good area at night) hope this helps
