Title: Buffalo area storm damage 10-13-06
Post by: Billy Bob on Oct 15, 2006, 04:04 PM
Who needs fire wood. It's EVERYWHERE. Not ONE tree is without damage. I am talking probably over a hundred thousand trees with damage. Here a just a couple pics of what Lake Erie did to us.

Meanwhile as a volunteer firefighter we have been going around the clock with over 120 calls so far including 3 working house fires. The boys need some rest and we thought we were going to get some. But as I was laying on the couch watching the Buffalo Bills game, the pager goes off notifying all firefighters of another working house fire. But we got it under control ASAP however, major damage to the house and both vehicles were lost that were park in the driveway.

In my fire district we are luck to only see one or two working fires at MOST per year. This is very unusual.

I have the utmost respect for you firemen.  You have the riskiest job to keep us safe.  With all that snow, I hope you find some time to play in it.   :frosty:
Don't worry, our snow is coming to Denver.  One of our ski resorts opened yesterday, and it's getting down-right cold at night!  I can feel it, snow's on the way...

Your area would be a great place to hold the next global warming conference......

Billy Bob, I don't think you would want to live in a FEMA trailer. We traveled along the Gulf coast of Louisana and Mississippi about three weeks ago and saw many of the crowded FEMA trailer parks in the Katrina damaged areas. Definitely not a great way to live but much better than nothing... You would probably be much happier living in your insulated and heated popup parked by the stump of a once shadey tree......

A FEMA trailer on the coast is looking pretty good right now. We still have NO power since THURSDAY. Temps are in the mid 40's and sometimes down to the low 30's. And now it's raining pretty hard.

Being without power for a while makes you realize just how dependant we all are on electricity and all of the things that we cannot do with out it.....When the power goes off, our great way of life comes to a very sudden standstill......
