My best intentions were to keep a camping journal when we bought our PU 5 years ago, but somehow, it just never happened. Of course, as my mom says, the road to H--- is paved with "best intentions...."
So I have vowed this will not happen again with our new HTT. I just bought this journal (//%22http://www.journalsunlimited.com/store/products/4546144/camping-journal/%22).
Anyone else keep a camping journal/diary/log or whatever it is you might call it?
I bought the one from PUT a couple of years ago I was doing really good until that last 6 months..thanks for the reminder I'll go grab it from the HTT tomorrow, It's too dang cold outside to go it it now
matter of fact your name is mentioned lots :D

I have kept a journal since we purchased the PU in April of 1999. It has had several forms over the years, and some trips have little information, but every trip has been recorded. That is why I know I have slept in the PU 304 nights. Night 300 was spent the day after Thanksgiving.:)
I was originally just keeping the information from the places we went but it was getting cumbersome and not very personal so when we got our new camper last year I bought a camping journal and so far have been doing good with it. Ok, it was only one trip so far but at least for now I am 100%.
Purchased one for dw for a Xmas present and she has been faithfull in keeping it up to date for the past four years.
Of course, she was an English teacher and did a lot with journals.
It is nice to read through it and remember the places, people and experiences along each trip.
My wife has been keeping a camping journal since we first started camping, over 15 years ago. It's just a spiral notebook--nothing fancy. But she writes down dates, places, general comments about the camping experience.
But most importantly, she notes items that we are out of ("need to replace collapsible jug," "get a roll of duct tape," "rain ponchos need to be replaced," etc.). She also notes any SPUTs we may have had, with suggestions on how to avoid that in the future (like, "unzip awning bag before the top is fully extended," etc.).
When we pop up to pack the camper before a trip, she reads through the journal to see what she noted last time that we need to buy or need to remember. Very helpful.

is where I post my pictures and that is in it'self is a journal.
BUT I do try and write a review or about things that happen on our trips.
I keep a eXcel spreadsheet on all camping expenses.
At least for the past 3 years.
I copy maps from CG's and put what site I camped, who was with us and where they camped and sites I dont like.
Computers are good for that.

When we bought our 01 Niagara new we started keeping a record of our camping travels like CGs, fuel purchases, popup towing miles and TV milage. All we use for a journal is a legal pad on a clip board and it works really well. When the pages are fulll they are stored in a file at home.....
I use the same journal (but branded and sold by Gander Mountain Stores) for each camping location, but use a separate mileage journal from an office supply store to keep track of camper mileage and maintainance. All camping photos are kept in a separate photo album.
To make it easy to keep up, the journal is stored in the camper, the mileage book in the tow vehicle, and the photo album in my home office.
So far so good on the journal. Last year was our first year. 10 trips in all. I note which campsite, the weather, things we did. My only problem is whether to keep it in the pop-up or at home. Leaving it in the pop-up, I had to fill it in the night before we'd pack up. I forgot a few times. Our journal is just a spiral journal book with plain pages. Haven't seen the camping journal yet.
I keep a black 3 rind binder in the camper. On the last day I pull it out and have everyone that went camping with us write something-anything and sign their name. I always put in where and when we went. Its nice to read the comments they make. We are always taking extra people with us.

Campingnut welcome to PUT! Where do you like to camp?:)

I have never kept a journal of any kind. Even when I was 12 and all my friends had diaries I could never be bothered. When we take our big cross-continent trip in 08, I plan on keeping a journal and helping my boys make scrapbooks.
I figure the lawyer might want to read it when we come back and instantly file for divorce ;)
Has anyone seen the log where you keep up with dates where you are and going ,mileage, rating the cg ,What you like about the cg and dislike, featues around the cg, good or bad moments there
We have a mileage journal (towing mileage) in the glove compartment that Holly sometimes adds stuff about the trip, when putting in the miles. It has been fun to go back and read. We started it with our first trip in March 2002 right after our wedding.

Camping World has one and I checked a few other sites, they all have the same one. It's around 9 bucks
I've always intended to keep a journal; we do keep maps, etc, and mark the sites we like best for future reference and all that is in a binder. I guess the closest I come to a camping journal in this sense is scrapbooking pictures from trips. (ok, so maybe I have SEVERAL trips worth yet to scrapbook....)

i have kept a journal since we began with tent camping. than started a new one when we moved to a pop up (jayco). In the front i recorded the cost of everything from the camper to dishtowels.
each trip i include our camping spot - info on cleanliness of bathrooms and campground. we always record after a walk other campsites we felt would be good for us in the future. I record the gas price and our expenses - this is for our kids so that they can look back if they ever take their families and can see inflation at work lol. I record the weather for each day and at the end of each day especially if we have been sightseeing I ask the kids to give me their favorite thing we did and what they liked best about the excursion..i record it directly in their words it's really sweet to go back and read about our past trips it brings them back to life
our jornal is actually is a project notebook so there is a margin to record weather expenses ect.
we also record our trips to the beach and its very interesting to see how economical even with gas prices the way they are that most times we could go for 3 weeks camping for 1 week at the beach....
Yes Thats it Thanks alot. I had seen one at a store but couldn't remember what store.
I will resurrect this post and say yes we do.
I started when we bought the pup. ANd I just started a new one for our new pup. Just where when mileage, and high points nothing major but helps keep track of what we did...
OK....I keep notes at a hit and miss when we bought the TT I bought a new journal and said I'd be better at writing down info but it's still a hit and miss deal.......Ok I'm going out to the trailer and get my book and catch up....... :book:
I bought the journal that Griffsmom has. I decided that it would be perfect for the new HTT. This way I can keep track of how often and where we use the camper.
Jacqui
And when do you think we would get the time to fill in a journal?
Actually, I have been keeping a log ever since we got the Popup, and I have most of our trips recorded in it.
Then when we got the Hybrid, the first 2 years I have kept a log of where we went, but seemed to have lost interest after that.
Now with the RV, I have taken it out again and am tracking where we went, the mileage, money spent on gas.
We'll be going on our 9th trip in it next week, so we are getting plenty of use with it.
We keep a black marble note book in the camper. My DH is great at writing in it. We also like to give it to the kids when they are sitting around with nothing to do. It's funny to see the change in their handwriting over the years.

YIKES!!! :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:
We bought our first PUP in '94 and have been keeping a journal ever since. I bought a dairy book and write the date, place, campsite #, weather, any interesting happenings, break downs (like cables, a/c etc), family events.
It is intersting to note how many times we have stayed at favorite campsites over the years, when this bad storm happened, or the time we saw that interesting animal.
It is definitely worth the time to do.
