Title: Shademaker Awning
Post by: mjdfarm on Feb 10, 2007, 03:34 PM
Has anyone bought a shademaker awning offered on the RV workshop website?  If so what do you think?  My awning is in need of replacement and is difficult to use due to the need for guide wires and difficult to handle/ store poles.  I was looking for something easier to use.  It looks like these slide into the existing track on the camper.

Hello, I purchased the Shademaker standard bag awning a few weeks ago (not from rvworkshop but the price was exactly the same). I love it.
It slides right into the old rail (measure the width of the welting, it should be 5/16" or 3/8") the new awning welting was 5/16". If your rail is larger it will still slide in, it won't fall out. The poles are attached to the main extrusion channel and it comes with 2 stakes that anchor the poles. I think the Supreme is 50 or 60 bucks more. It has square poles and the aluminum as painted or anodized. Hope this was helpful.

It was thanks.  I think I may make the investment.

I picked up a ShadeMaker Supreme 9' bag awning this past summer from http://www.interwestsports.com/bag%20awnings.html  and I've been in love with it ever since.  I had an old rope & pole awning that I would curse everytime I set it up.  I could never get it to be even, and I ended up having to put so much tension on the lines to get the awning taught that it pulled my roof out of square and my door wouldn't close right.

This summer I repainted my popup and when it was done, I slid in the new awning in the existing rail.  Screwed in the retaining screws, mounted the arm holder thingy's on the side of the roof and I'm all set.  I like the square tubing and height adjustment lever arm thingy's.

 Well worth the $250 shipped.

Thanks Jeremy.  I think you convinced me and more importantly my wife with those great pictures.  Im going to measure my awning tomorrow and order one.  I cant stand that rope and pole awning that came with the camper.

By the way the camper looks great!
