Title: New TV
Post by: wavery on Mar 15, 2007, 08:49 PM
You'll all be happy to know that we finally broke down and bought a new (to us) TV.

It's a '99 Chevy S10 P/U, extended cab, 4.3L V6, A/T and tow pkg. It has a 5500# tow rating so now I don't have to notify all of the SCCAMPERS before I get on the road :D  .

It looks and drives like a brand new car. The previous owner was extremely anal. He bought it new and serviced it regularly.

Maybe we will make some of those inland, mountain camp-outs now.

Congrats! I had a 95 S10, and LOVED LOVED LOVED the 4.3 engine. Can't be beat. Large engine...small truck. Great power to weight ratio.

If the engine is the VORTEC 4300, keep in mind that you can get a few more horsepower by using premium gas.  It's not a lot, but it does help at higher altitudes.

Austin (Astro has the VORTEC)

We just got back from driving it up to Bridgeport (Near Mammoth). I was impressed with the 23MPG and it runs & drives like a new truck.

I don't think I'll be doing any mods for a while. I looked for a long time to find exactly what I wanted, with everything on it.

The only thing that I am a little disappointed in is the weight of the fiberglass bed cover. I thought that Carolyn and I would be able to easily remove it for when I want to haul big items. It weighs about 100# and Carolyn has a bit of a hard time lifting one side. I may have to rig a pulley or sling system on the ceiling of the garage to lift it off.

Thanks :sombraro:

I think it will be a good TV but now we feel kinda silly because it will sit in the garage until our next camp-out. Our Concorde gets better mileage and is more comfortable. Now we're sitting here asking ourselves why we bought it :J

BTW Brad, our first mod will be the Prodigy brake controller.

"Tis the season....we are picking up a 2004 F150 Crewcab 5.4L this Friday. It's loaded and has low miles (30K). The Safari is going to our niece in Boston that just became the instant Mom to 3 kids under 5 years old!  :eyecrazy:

Our truck will sit in the garage also, unless the Jayco is hooked to it. The '96 Stratus and son's '98 Neon will obviously be getting us better mileage!

Congrats on the new TV. We know exactly how you feel!!! (i'm just happy to have something that was built this century!)

Yeeeeeeah Wayne!!!!!!  TV looks gooooood.  Remember all the $#%& you got when you first came on these boards and stated you were towing with a Concorde?  You're growing up so fast.

Hey Wayne, Not sure if you noticed it or not but the topper is not blue.  Just thought I'd run that by you just in case you can return it.  LOL

Hey, Wayne ... looks alright for the girls I go with!

I had it's kissin' cousin, a GMC Sonoma with about the same drive train. What I really liked about that 4.3 V-6 was that it reached top torque at 2800 rmp. A lot quicker to top torque than my present V-8 (5200 rpm). I especially liked it for towing in the mountains.
