Title: Need Help fixing pinhole in canvas
Post by: BillKat on Mar 18, 2007, 03:32 PM
We just went camping in our new to us 94 Starcraft.  It had only been used about 6 times since new as we bought it from the original owners.  Everything looks new in the camper including the canvas.   However, once set up and laying in one of the bunks, I noticed a sun shining thru a pinhole in the top canvas.   Upon looking at it from the top (it wasn't visible, had to have the wife point to it from the inside), it appeared to be a 1/16" crack in the canvas.

How do I repair this?  Patch kit? epoxy?

Thanks in advance.

Is it truly canvas?
My Viking had a pinhole and I just smeared a dab of clear silicone on it. Sealed it up nicely. The Viking had a vinyl type covering on the tenting. If I had to do it again, I would have used white silicone.

Well...the top isn't canvas but more vinyl....the sides are more canvas...I used the term "canvas" in general...the hole is in the vinyl top.

I would put just a dab of "Marine Goop" on the pin hole.  I use Goop for a lot of stuff and it is clear.:)

Starcraft uses something called Aqualon for their canvas areas.  It's ...well, click here: http://www.starcraftrv.com/starcraft_folding_campers/starcraft_starcraft_2407.html
and scroll down to near the bottom of the page.  There you'll find a link to the stuff...

If in doubt, call Starcraft, prompt for the Parts dept (I think it's option 4) and then ask to speak to a tech rep...

I would go with just a dab of white silicone.
It is, after all, just a pinhole.

I had the same problem on my starcraft.  Cabelas has a patch kit called Tear Aid.  Type A is for canvas and the type B kit is used to repair Vinyl and Vinyl-coated materials which is what you will need.  Good luck.
