My wife and I have just purchased our first pop-up. It is a 98 Viking Legend 2470. It is in very good shape and I didn't think 2k was too much. I will tow it with a 95 GMC Jimmy SLT. We have made plans to use it 4th of July week.  I hope we did not make a mistake with this camper.  Any comments would be appreciated.

P.S. I am a new member as of today

Well, welcome aboard!

I'd say a '98 popup camper in good shape is well worth a couple of grand! I had an older piece of literature (I'm a pack rat ... never throw anything away) and it shows the dry weight for your 2470 Legend to be 1730 lbs, with a cargo capacity of 710 lbs ... sound about right?

Assume your Jimmy is a 4.3 V-6, automatic?  That should be able to take y'all down the road ... providing your not like me and load the tow vehicle down with every possible kind of camping bric-a-brac!

Happy trails!

Yes, I believe it is right. I do not have the owners manual for the pu but the tv  will be more than capable to pull it. We picked it up on Good Friday and pulled it about 30 miles, no problems. Would like to have electric brakes but can get by without them.

I'd just about bet the camper already has them.  Just have a look-see behind the wheel and if ther's brake drums, you got 'em!  Just have to get a controller for the TV.  With a popup that size brakes would be a good idea.

Welcome aboard 4 Barrel, this is a good site to hang out in. If you need a manual for your PU check out, "PopUp Portal". At the top of the home page right next to the forum, is owners manuals, check to see if they have it and you can down load it for Free.   http://www.popupportal.com/
Hope this helps.........Ed :sombraro:
