Title: 6"PVC pipe on back bumper
Post by: Greg Ellis on May 14, 2007, 11:42 PM
Okay guys, its time for me to embarress myself.  I want to put a 6"piece of PVC pipe on the back of my Jayco Pop up, but there isn't room to sit on top of the bumper due to the spare tire, and with the bunk supports in place the pipe ontop of the bumper would be in the way.  There really isn't enough clearance to put it under the bumper.  For those of you who have put the pvc pipe on your campers, how did you do it?  Do you have any pics or previous threads you can point to?  If I use hose clamps, do you have to take it apart at the campground?  I could put it straight out from the bumper, but it seems like a lot of weight for a few hose clamps.  I guess its my time to learn something from you guys.  Thanks in advance.....

Click in my signature to see my mods page. I don't think it will help you much, though, because it just sat on top of the tongue and bumper. I just used pipe strap (not pipe clamps).

Some people have mounted a pipe under the trailer close to the tires or on the tongue of the trailer.:)

Dh mounted our PVC tube under our Coleman just in front of the tires. We never had a clearance problem this way. He made end caps for the tube, one permanent and one twist off, and hung the tube using metal straps. The tube never moved and the twist-off access cap was right next to the door step of the camper and very convenient.

Thanks guys.  It looks like I am going to have to play with this a bit.  If I can make it work, I'll post a pic of the result.  We are going on our maiden trip tomorrow from Texas to Missouri to watch me oldest son graduate from High School and then go camping from there.  I am a pharmacist for Walgreens and haven't had a day off for 5 weeks, so I am really looking forward to this trip.
