have friends renting a house in Duck, wonder what the campground options are near there. never been to the ob, first trip.
many thanks.
There's a NPS C/G (Oregon Inlet), south of Duck ~ 252-473-2111
And a private one a little closer ~ Joe & Kays, 252-441-5468
Better call first!
Good Luck.

Ocean Waves is a ways down the coast from Duck. There's also the KOA that's right next door to Ocean Waves. I haven't stayed at either, but Ocean Waves has a little shade, KOA does not.
I've never heard of Joe & Kays
Ocean Waves and the KOA are down around Rodanthe and Avon, past Oregon Inlet. I've stayed at the KOA, and yes, there is no shade. Great facilities though (in May 2006), with concrete sites on the bay and beach side, full hook-ups, cable, pool and hot tub. Great sunsets!
Depending on how far north your friends are in Duck and when you are going, it could take anywhere from 1/2 an hour (no summer tourists) to an hour (in traffic) to visit them if you stay this far south.
T'ain't nothin' close to Duck. Oregon Inlet is a great federal park but is all the way at the other end of the island and you have to traverse the entire Nags Head-Kill Devil Hills metroplex to get there and back. Why don't you set up in their driveway?
