Title: So much for our camping plans this weekend
Post by: bpike on May 25, 2007, 07:40 AM
After spending the past couple of months getting the new to me pup ready and fixing everything I found wrong on it. I was excited about taking the family camping this long weekend. NOw it turns out that may not be happening. The weather has gone from bad to worse in Central Texas and we have been getting hammered with thunderstorms all wekk and it's going to be like this all weekend as well.

When we lived in New England, we never cancelled due to a forecast.  There, the forecasts were only reliable for about 6 hours, and were a good guess for about 24 hours, but useless beyond that.  Since moving to Minnesota, I'd about double those numbers, so a forecast is good for about 12 hours, and a good guess for about 2 days out.  There have been a few times when the forecast said "cancel" but we went and ended up with good (though perhaps not perfect) weather.

Of course, if you're seeing nothing but rain in all directions for 300 miles, you don't need a forecaster to tell you it's going to rain.

On the other hand, we've continued a trend we've seen since we bought the pop-up seven years ago.  We pick good weather times weeks and even months in advance.  I'm still waiting for our luck to run out, but we've never had more than two days rain in a row on longer trips, and only had daytime rain about 10 times in seven years of camping.

Hoping things turn better for you soon.
