Be sure to check out Minnesota State Parks at this link (http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/index.html).  MN state parks are highly reccommended.  I have never seen a bad one.

Most of my experience in the Twin Cities area is East of St. Paul (such as William O'Brien SP - highly recommended), so it's probably more than an hour from you.

I have seen Bunker Lake Regional Park (http://www.anokacountyparks.com/qlinks/Parks/BunkerHills/bunker.htm) campground in Ham Lake (about 15-20 miles north of Minneapolis).  It looks like a nice campground, though I have never camped there.  The park has Bunker Beach (http://www.bunkerbeach.com/) waterpark (for a $ignificant extra fee of cour$e) that includes Minnesota's largest wave pool, several water slides, and what they call a "zero-entry pool" which I think means limited mobility/handicapped entry pool.

If you end up camping there, let me know by private message or email; we live about 15 minutes away and would enjoy meeting you.

Also, browse the Great Lakes sub-forum for reviews of campgrounds in Minnesota.

Welcome to PUT.

We are on the other side of The Cities from you and really enjoy some of the regional parks on this side of the world.   ;)

Check out the parks in
Dakota County  (http://www.co.dakota.mn.us/LeisureRecreation/Parks/default.htm) ~ Lebanon Hills Regional Park
Washington County  (http://www.co.washington.mn.us/info_for_residents/parks_division/reservations_and_permits/) ~ Lake Elmo and St Croix Bluffs Regional Parks
Anoka County (http://www.anokacountyparks.com/qlinks/Parks/RiceCreek/ricecreek.htm) ~ Rice Creek Chain of Lakes
Regional Park Reserve

You can also check out the Midwest Forum (http://www.popupexplorer.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=13) at PUX for group outings in the works.  There is a MN group that gets together the weekend after Father's Day and the first weekend in October every year.
