Title: Ninety dollars!
Post by: AustinBoston on Jul 12, 2007, 02:45 PM
I was with PJay yesterday when she filled up the Astro with Gas.  $90.01, and this was after taking five cents off per gallon.  :eyecrazy:

It seems like only yesterday that we could fill up on less than $10.

Never!  We learned that from you!

It was however, driven into the station on fumes...

I'll trade you tanks (but not vans) , we have a 35 gallon fill up. I topped off Tues at 3.01 before I hit the big red zone.. still have almost a full tank.
Today it's 3.37 give or take a few depending on the station, that would be about a 118 buck fill up!!

My bike , with it's basket I bought for it last year has gotten a work out. I can add panier bags too, that's 3 bags worth of groceries.  2 miles to the grocery store, I need the excersize anyhow.

Yeh, it's the 150 mile weekends that are the killer.

Either we carpool (which means NO gas used by my car  ;) ) or I drive to the bus depot...

Gotta dust off that bike.  I used to put a couple thousand a year on it...have the pounds to show for it, too...

I get so upset everytime this subject comes up ... or when I drive past the posted prices of some service station; and worse yet, when I fill-up.

There were so many places I wanted to travel to and see at this time in my life and I simply cannot afford it!

Fortunately we only have to drive about a mile for groceries and gas. Wally World and Lowes are about two miles and the mall is about five miles from where we live. We use DW's T&C around town as it gets much better milage than the pickup. Kings Mountain SP is only 21 miles from home so we have been doing alot of camping there. Been there six times since April.

Geez! How big is your tank, and how expensive is your gas?

I fill my 26 gallon tank, usually needing about 24 gallons, and I rarely exceed 80 bucks! 91 octane is about $3.20 around here.

Every day I pile the kids into my Honda Civic I say to myself "I sure miss my mini-van". Then when I have to fill it up with gas ($35 to fill and I get apprx 340 miles on a take in the city) it is so work the incovenience. Now of course I am not the one sardined in the back seat.

Here in Northern California gas is about $2.98 a gallon

Larry, they are in the part of the country that has a refinery off line. The news said that it is coming back on line so the upper mid-west should get a break. They are having some of the highest gas prices in the country right now.

In NJ yesterday, I paid $2.77 returning back from the rally, Gas raised about a nickel in the week of the eastern rally. We normally drive the toyota corolla every where when we go places together.  The grocery is about 3 blocks, I work about 1 1/2 miles when I take the X-way. So a tank on my Windstar lasts 2 weeks easy.

yep ~ it's high here in the upper midwest ... $3.29(9) this week ~ down from $3.39(9) last week.

Assuming AB's gas tank is the same size as mine ... it's a 27 gallon tank.

Which brings up another point...Why does an Astro van with a 4.3L V6 have a 27 gallon tank, and my Crew Cab Silverado with a 5.3L V8 and towing package have a 26 gallon tank?

In the words of the great poet Arsenio Hall, "Things that make you go hmmm...."

The biggest reason is probably the size of the empty space in the body where they intend to put the tank.  There's an extra bulge in the Astro's underbody where they can make the tank a gallon or two larger.

I think our Astro is a 28 gallon tank.  We've never put more than 27 gallons in it.

Tank is the right word for it, too...consuming a gallon of fuel every 21 miles (16 miles if towing), she's not cheap to run.

87 octane gas in the northeastern part of NY state ranges anywhere from $3.01 in the Glens Falls area to $3.19 in parts of the Adirondacks to $3.22 near the Plattsburgh area. I would ecstatic to spend $2.77/gallon. I spent $100 yesterday filling up my Tundra with 87 octane and topping off the boat with 89 octane. Ouch!!! Toys are fun, but they are expensive. But as Tim McGraw sings "Live like you are dying." If I can't afford to use my toys then I am not going to have them at all. Working some extra hours for gas money so I can camp, boat, snowmobile and travel is all worth it to me.

Was up under my truck a couple of weeks ago (witness the wide opening in my scalp) putting a new Class V Putnam XDR hitch. Plenty of room for more tank. Could get a Transfer Flow tank, but really don't need it, I guess. It would be nice if I drove long distances.

My 4Runner gets between 16 and 20 (depends on how fast I drive).

I've been taking the motorcycle.  It's 25-35 (depending, again, on how I drive it and how fast I go on the HWY).

Neither have air conditioning right now, but one of them has better airflow (snicker).

Filled a 5 gallon gas can the other day.  $16..

Well, the station we paid $90.01 for a tank of gas made so much money on that gas that they have come down in price nearly 40 cents a gallon in just a couple weeks.

And to think I was complaining of being in the high 2.60's here in NJ and that is full service ( you can't pump your own in NJ ).

Hmmmm....

We are paying around $1.07 a litre in Ontario, Canada right now.

I know gas is expensive, but do the math:

1 US Gallon = 3.785 litres

So....  even if you round down to USD$3.00/Gal. you are paying, we in Canada are paying approximately $4.05/Gal!!!
