Title: Campgrounds

Any recomendations for non-state owned campgrounds that are lake front in Michigan?  Rather stay on the big lakes, not inland.

Private?  USFS?   Ele & showers?  Upper or Lower? There's lots of camping that's not state run and it's a big state.

    I personally stay at state parks in Michigan and could give you a long list of those.  As for Private I have only stayed at two and that was due to the state parks being full.  I know that there is one not far from the Platte river In the sleeping bear dunes and another near Traverse city.  Both of these where not on the lake.  Lake front property is pretty expensive and the amount of land required for a good sized camp would be very pricey.   Both of the ones I stayed at where okay but not nearly as nice as the state parks.  Good luck  Ken

I stay at state parks most of the time as well, but the ones on the water seem difficult to get into.

I'm another who has not been to any private parks anyplace in MI. With the wealth of State and National forest service sites both ele and primitive the need for private never arose.

I was told there are a couple good private parks near Silver Lake, but haven't been to them and don't remember their names. (useless info) If you can find a way to enjoy primitive, darn near each of those are on a lake or river, with water front sites.
