Title: Do you keep the linens on your bed?
Post by: firefly72 on Aug 01, 2007, 09:46 AM
We are fairly new to Pups -bought our new2us 93 Skamper last spring.

I never considered leaving the sheets and blankets on the bed ends when we pop down, as I didn't think there was enough room.  However, on our recent trip I watched a pop up on another site going up and could see the linens on the bed.

Just curious if most people do this.  Sure would help with storage!

We usually made up the beds at the house while packing, or, occasionally, we would put new linens on then bed when breaking camp. Also, we would sometimes just leave the linens on the bed because we had only slept a couple of nights in them anyway.

It does help with setup. Unfortunately, in our hybrid, this is not an option.

yes we started doing this at the last couple campouts.  Helps speed set up etc.  We sleep in sleeping bags anyway when we are in the pup so sheets stay clean prettty long...

Of course, it all depends on the clearance for the roof on your particular model.

We carry a spare set of sheets. Before we pop-down, we put on clean sheets. We also leave the comforter and air-mattress (deflated) in place. There is plenty of room on our 2002 Tacoma. I don't know about your Skamper.

The other thing to consider is that we park our PU in the garage and we live in SoCal, where it is fairly dry. I'm not sure that I would do it in a humid area. Some free air space over the bunk may be nice to prevent mildew.

We keep the linens on, it helps speed up setup. In order to keep them smelling fresh, I put a glade plug in freshener in one of the outlets. Even when the PUP is not plugged in, the freshener gives off scent so when I pop up, it smells nice and fresh.
P.S. I would refrain from plugging in the camper when it's not popped up and you have a glade air freshener in the outlet as I heard they can heat up and cause a fire.

We leave our sheets on the bed.

If we have been gone a while and need to wash them I set up at home, wash and replace the sheets and leave them on for the next trip.

We use sheets, blanket, and bedspread.  We only use sleeping bags if is is going to be really cold.

When we bought our PUP the dealer threw in two Slumber Paks (they are kinda like large sleeping bags and linen) that matched the interior of the PUP. We leave them in the bunk ends when we pop down. We move the pillows to the end of the beds at the box side. This is how the dealer showed us to do it.

We use sheets & blankets, and we leave our sheets on the bed.  oh, and ditto on the popup beds, too!

Also have 2" memory foam on the beds and still get it closed with no problem.

Anything I can do to save set-up and tear-down time is a priority.

No, it is too hot and humid here in the south to leave them on, they would smell musty.  I don't leave the pillows in either.  We used our sleeping bag opened up on top of the mattress and use top sheets.  They get washed after each trip and put in those vacuum bags.  I have a special place in the garage for the camping stuff that goes in the TV right before we leave, sheets included.

Sheets, comforter and 3" memory foam stays on the beds.  Top closes fine...however, the pillows come out.  As stated above, we keep a fresh set in the pup and change them right before we pack up.

We leave the sheets and comforters in place when we break down. We don't wash our sheets after every trip since we only slept on them a couple of nights. Pillows do come out though.

I just recently started leaving sheets on beds when I close up but I have bought 2 of the plastic mattress covers to put over the sheets to keep any moisture or dirt off the clean sheets. It definitly saves time and patience when setting up. I only do this when we will be using the camper again soon.

We have just started putting clean sheets and a light blanket on the bed after getting back from a trip to be all ready to go and save storage space.  We also keep a Damp Rid in the camper while is is stored between use to keep it dry and fresh.

When we had our 05 Niagara (highwall), we were able to keep the sleeping bags on the beds while popping down.  Doing this, saved time in the long run.

Don't the linens get dirty when you guys push the bed in and the  tent over the bed is folded in?

We leave the sheets and a comforter on the bunk ends, but remove pillows. Of course, we remove and wash after long trips (over 3 days) or after a couple of weekends. We do remove the bedding from the "make-shift" couch bed and the dinette bed though, as we do not always use those.

The linens are placed on the bed at home when the PU is dry and clean, so we haven't had any problem.  For weekend trips, when breaking camp it doesn't matter if they are soiled because they are lanundered between trips anyway. It might be a concern if we had to break camp to move to a new site during an extended trip, but come to think about it, we haven't had any issues with getting the matress wet or dirty either.

Wow, I gues I should start leaving my sheets on the bed.  I take everything off the bed at the end of trip put it in the laundry bag and after washed at home, then they go into a storage container until the next camping trip.  Where I make the bed after popping up... Fresh sheets make the best sleeping.

I leave form fitting sheets over the matresses at all times. Even if using sleeping bags in cooler months. I do change them (always spares aboard), wash the used ones, and the PU is closed up with fresh sheets. Keep the pillows, pillow cases, extra linen and the sleeping bags in the compartment aft that's just for bedding.

My little Starcraft is ready ... right now! ... for an outing. There's clean bedding, towels and such; some (sealed)  bottled water and enough rations to last at least two or three days and nights out, with out ever stopping at a grocery store!

We open up the camper at home to air it out and clean it.  While it is open we wash the sheets and remake the beds before we put it away.  We keep it under cover so it doesn't get any rain on it.  We have never had problems with mold or mildew.

After each trip we wash the linens and put them back on for the next time. Just one way to keep the mattress covers looking new and clean.
