Title: VA CG advice
Post by: munchkin on Aug 12, 2007, 09:14 PM
Hi!

I'm planning my next big trip to the Virginia Beach area and tend to favor State Parks. Any great CG's to check out or horrible ones to avoid?

Thanks!!

If you prefer state parks, there is First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach!

Looked at that one, seems great--just wanted first hand verification. Seems that this would be a perfect location. Anything special I need to know--campsites to avoid there, etc.?

Thanks!!

sorry...never been to that particular park, however VA park systems don't allow you to reserve a particular site, you can reserve "a site", but you get there and then pick from what is available at the time you are there.     Unfortunately, you can't reserve your favorite site.......

might want to check out kiptopeke state park. its on the other side of va beach. you have to go across the chesapeake bay bridge ($12 toll) and it is about 4 miles once you get to the other side.  i go there every year and love it.

mudrider,

Is the proximity to the beach te same/more/less than 1st landing? I did see this one, but wasn't sure how close it was to the beach.

Thanks!!

sorry so late. did you go yet??  if not, the beach is just a nice walk from the cg.  i would say it is less than a 1/4 mile walk.  you can go to where the yurts are and theres a boardwalk that takes you straight to the beach. it is worth the walk. its not steep, its pretty much flat with ramps and/or steps.  there are, i think, 3 paths that are behind the group camping area, or you can just drive to the pier/boat launch/beach.  also, i think first landing closes the gatelate at nite and you got to be in,  kiptopeke you can be out all night if you want.
