Title: Fresh water tank cleaning
Post by: Darrell T on Sep 12, 2007, 06:19 PM
I just got a new fresh water tank. Is there a sure fire way to get the "plastic" taste out? I have read about "freshening up" the tank after the winter with baking soda but didn't find any info on removing the plastic taste.

I'd go with the same method as sanitizing, which I do every Spring:

-make a solution of 1/4 cup bleach to 1 gallon water
-place in tank
-fill tank with fresh water
-open all faucets and let soution run thru
-turn off fucets
-drain and let stand for 3 hours
-drain and flush with fresh water
-repeat flush

also, after you sanitize, you may optionally add this step to remove odors:

- add 5 gallons fresh water and 1 quart vinegar to tank
-"allow this solution to agitate in tank for several days by vehicle motion"*

(* hey, I have no idea how youhave time to agitate a pup water tank for days, but this is what is printed in my Palomino manual, I'm not making it up!)

-drain and flush again
