Title: Hot Water Tank
Post by: Springbok on Oct 10, 2007, 10:50 PM
I'm in the habit of draining the hot water tank at the end of every camping trip.  Is it necessary to remove the anode when the tank is empty?  In other words does the anode have to be immersed in water at all times or does exposure to the air for extended periods have no adverse effect on it's performance?

I typically drain the HWH after every trip, and I usually only pull the anode once a year to inspect it.  Once or twice, I leave it out all winter.  Around here, they only cost about $11, so it's not a big deal to replace it.

I drain my hot water tank after every trip and my anode rod looks very good after 3 years so far.
