Title: memory foam and closing the PUP
Post by: Bowfin on Oct 17, 2007, 06:48 AM
Do you folks close your PUP with the memory foam mattress on the bunkends?

I have the 1.5" mattress and had a hard time closing the top. I don't like having to push down the top to close it the last inch. I may have to see if I can roll it up and store it somewhere in the camper.

Well, if it's any consolation, we don't use a mattress topper, and often have to apply modest weight to the corner of the roof to latch it.

I think it is less stress on the roof to "hook" each of the latches before clamping any of them down.

I've got the 1.5" memory foam on my front bunk of the 06 Niagara, and I've found that if I lower the roof all the way, then wait a few minutes, it latches okay - guess it needs to burp, etc., and settle before it's ready to be latched.

I'm not sure that the memory foam really plays a part - as mine did this before I put the foam on!

I've also found that by leaving a few inches of 'window' unzipped helps or speeds up the process of closing the roof.

Don't know if this helps you or not.

We like the pad so much that when we get home, we put it on our bed in the house.

we have 2" foam in the back bunk and 1.5" eggshell foam upfront.
if it's a little high, we wait 3-4 minutes and easier then to close, but usually closes straight away.

Same here; 1-1/2" on our daughter's bunk and 2" on ours.  Roof closes fine with them in place.

So glad I saw this post, I just got back from a trip with the air mattress losing all it's air by 4am...and that was not fun.  So sick of buying them and they leak.  Good to know that you all have the foam and the top closes.  I have been considering getting one.

Question though..does the foam really stop you from feeling the plywood bottom?

We have the 2" memory foam on the Queen bunk, on top of the stock mattress, and find that if we pull it 'off' a couple of inches that the top closes just fine

I am convinced, I'll be getting a topper very soon!
